Turns out that the oil pressure sender from a 100-series threads right into the LS430 oil filter mount, and plugs right into the 4runner engine harness. It also has the same resistance band as the 2F's. Plugged it up, wired it up, and bam...a functional gauge. 2500rpm vs idle.
Good save a few years ago I rocked my sump on a rutted metal road made it to a friends driveway 5kms down the road as the last of the oil dripped out. Towed it up to his house. He welded it with a gas set and some fencing wire. Drove that car for another year.
Here ya go, @NookShneer; the land out behind the shop has a few trails and few spots to test stuff. So, we took a couple trucks out to see how they'd behave before heading to GSMTR.
All good. Maybe one day I'll get it on a ramp to see the flex numbers, but so far I'll say it's doing pretty well. She's on two tires there, but just barely. I should've gotten a photo of the rear springs. The passenger side upper leaf was allllmost touching the frame - so I'm glad I didn't french in that hanger.
**If anyone has a need for a good rear 60 bumper let me know. This one needs to go to a good home before I trash it on the trail.**
Thanks, guys. It was fun to stretch Camo's legs and see what she could do. Loved taking all the lines I used to have to pass up knowing full well that Gray had no shot on 'em, like this one:
She didn't come out totally unscathed, though, so she'll get a few tweaks so that I don't have to be so gentle. The main one is the engine...she's gotta go up - there's lots of room so I figure I'll move it up 2". Reason being that I had a little fun coming out of an obstacle and crested a hill under throttle right into a deep hole which rolled the pinion high up into the oil pan when the tire hit the hole wall. Thanks again to all the folks on the trail for sparing their JB Kwik, their oil, and their patience to help me get this thing patched up.
The rest of the week went by repair-free thanks to lots of good spotting. She rides well on the trail and turned in good fuel economy to boot. Averaged 17mpg on the highway there and back, and made one visit to the pump for the whole week we were there.
Good to meet you as well, Johnny. We'll get up to NC for a run sooner than later. You killed it with that trailer. Photos don't do the thing justice.
**edited 7/24/21 - making progress. several items have been to "one day" status. AC, heat shield, canister, and steering wheel are still on the short list.
*edit 7/29/21 - AC is in, pre-cat exhaust is wrapped up, and a bit of electrical was improved and tidied up.
1. Body work to allow a windshield replacement /// Feels like I'm on borrowed time with Barney Fife, and the passenger seat isn't a good place to be in a rain storm.
1. Engine position /// I mounted the engine low enough to leave coil #7 easily serviced. That has been the cause of two pan ruptures now. I'll put a new Denso coil pack in, move the engine 2" higher, and pull the booster for any future coil service.
1. TB/WP service /// I put it off until I had the truck driving. She's due.
1. Alternator /// The VR failed on me on the way home.
1. AC!!! /// GSMTR was cooler than expected but still...it exposed the need in spades.
1. PS cat converter heat shield /// converter is ~3" from the OE steel fuel lines, highway speeds show no issue, but long periods at low speed cause the fuel system to heat up
1. Rear tire carrier /// the 37" spare was a pain to pack around a couple weeks ago
Patch a couple roof leaks /// something used to be mounted up top, and a few 1/2" holes have been left to slowly rot open. gonna fill 'em in with some sheet metal.
Charcoal canister /// tank vent was plugged and built some major tank pressure. I fixed the pressure problem but picked up some fumes that need taming.
Bump stops /// I built some quick and dirty steel ones, but they're jarring when they hit. Not sure yet what's going in there just yet. Springs were far too soft. This is fixed a few pages later. I can still find the bumps, but it takes much more of a hit to do so.
Dash /// Leaving the current mess up front isn't doing the rest of the build any justice. It needs cleaning up and the dash cap to be re-installed.
Straighten the steering wheel /// it's 90* out for a few reasons. Alignment fixed this. Also showed that thrust angle was 0.0*. Not bad for a driveway built suspension aligned with a tape measure.
Hi-lift jacking points /// nice to have given the truck's height
