Not to get all emotional here, but can I just say, that you all are a really great group of guys.

@Markuson been on here a long time, helping others, encouraging others with their projects.

Now that it's his time, I just love how everyone comes together, to rally around him, and show support for our fellow cruiser heads. Same goes for some of the other active builds going on, from @TonyP to @Utah200, I enjoy how we don't gloat, or put each other down. It's just good honest congratulations. Keep it up guys.

30 PSI isn't a lot, for sure. What size are your Ridge Grapplers?

I run 285/75/75 so basically 34"X11". I find these tires to be very soft, so 30psi seems like it would be like rolling on marshmallows. I had a lighter truck before on 37" KO2s that I ran at 28-29 psi on the street, but the 200 is so heavy (esp built) that the extra weight must be taken into consideration.

What pressure have you been running so far btw @Markuson? I'm excited to have our trucks on the same trail in Breck!

Wow. That seems low after 42psi on my KO2s...but there's a reason I call you the PSI Ninja! :poof:

Thanks!
33psi is stock weight. Add your bumpers, winch, drawers and any other weight I'd expect your psi to go up to at least 38 psi.

I have serious 35" envy

Ya... When the three of us finished wheeling Saturday, I aired up to 37...so that's really close. I want to find a reliable truck scale as I do run heavy.

Probably close 1000# over stock even *without* a loaded cargo space.

33psi F/R Cold Tire Inflation Pressure (CTIP) in the 35x12.50R17LT tires gives you a Load Limit of 2305LB/tire and covers you all the way up to the GVWR of the truck which is 7385LB. The total Load Limit for four tires @33psi is 9220LB or approximately 25% MORE than GVWR.

If you want to run your truck above the GVWR (which I am not recommending), then you should adjust the Load Limit of your tires to allow that same safety margin of 25%.

When you weigh your truck, if you find it is heavier than 7385LB, then you can increase the Load Limit of your tires to cover you. Of course, running heavier than the GVWR spec of 7385LB stresses a number of components - tires are just one link in the chain - and it's up to you to satisfy yourself you have all the bases covered.

As far as the tires are concerned, you could follow these guidelines based on your truck's actual weight:

<7385LB: 33psi F/R (2305LB/tire) Total Load Limit = 9220LB [Stock GVWR - 25% Safety Margin]

7386LB - 7885LB: 37psi F/R (2493LB/tire) Total Load Limit = 9972LB [500LB OVER stock GVWR - 26% Safety Margin]

7886LB - 8385LB: 40psi F/R (2625LB/tire) Total Load Limit = 10500LB [1000LB OVER stock GVWR - 25% Safety Margin]

To be clear, I do not recommend a simple increase in CTIP to safely operate your truck above the GVWR of 7385LB. What you do with tire pressures and/or the total weight of your vehicle is entirely up to you - all I can do is try to help you decide based on the science involved.

BTW, you have done a great job with your truck - well done!

Thank you @gaijin! Great info as always. :poof::clap:

find a local metal recycling center - they also have drive up weight scales

Gaijin is the guru of tire pressure!

I'll add a little recent personal experience with the Ridge Graps: My 285/70R17 (also E-rated) squat like crazy at 33psi weighing in at 7140 (3200FR/3940RR) loaded with trailer attached. They will of course support the load at that pressure but the sidewall flex is an entirely separate issue and you may want to watch for excessive heat buildup and scalloping of the outer lugs. I'd definitely be at 38 as a precaution. I ran in the 40's honestly this past trip which was overkill but the outer lugs were still FIRMLY planted on concrete and the contact patch was still appropriate with a more acceptable looking sidewall deflection.

Aired down to 32-33 empty now though that our trip/towing is done; back riding on the clouds!

ETA: Any truck stop with CAT Certified Scales is easy and $11 for the first weigh, $2 for a re-weigh (if you need to move to place axles on different pads in the instance of towing a short trailer).

If I understand you, I'm concerned you are not operating at correct pressures.

If you are running LT285/70R17 tires on a LC200, the recommended Cold Tire Inflation Pressure is 40psi F/R.

33psi is underinflated and should not be used under any load conditions - even empty. In fact, the absolute minimum recommended pressure for that tire under ANY conditions on ANY vehicle is 35psi. Minimum for the LC200 is 40psi.

Thank you! That explains the extreme squat I saw. Tire dealer set them at 32, I aired up to 51Fr/56Rr loaded and then thought it to be overkill and backed off to high 40's (loaded). Wife took unloaded 200 to Toyota dealer for warranty oil change post-trip and they set it back at 32-33. Guess I'll air them up to your 40 then!

Thanks again to the guru! (I'm thinking it might be handy to print off a load inflation table and shove it in the glovebox.)

You're welcome. Sad to see even Toyota dealers inflating to the door placard spec of 33psi even when an entirely different size tire is fitted

Another option would be to go to your Toyota dealer's Parts desk and order this sticker:

LcTireSticker_31JAN17_zps3nd5xigm.jpg

It's part#: MDC# 00602-60110 and my dealer gave it to me at no charge. At least it has the correct tire size, but the recommended pressure is 46psi instead of the correct 40psi. Worst case, a dealer or service shop would set yout pressures to 46psi allowing you to reduce them when you have a chance - beats running on dangerously low pressures.

Looking great, CONGRATS!

I want to find a reliable truck scale as I do run heavy.

We usually use San Diego Van & Storage on Fayette in El Cajon.

So does all this mean you won't be in on the "SD Bud Built group buy":D

Man, @Taco2Cruiser -- You nailed it. Not only does this forum encourage and assist, but it also celebrates stuff with people...and it makes all of it 10x more fun. Over the years in my workplace and elsewhere, I've discovered that finding people who are truly HAPPY for the success of OTHERS--is a quality that I've discovered is not the norm. My family always felt genuinely happy for others, so growing up--I just thought that was normal. But it ain't. It's an unusual thing, and this forum is incredibly cool because that IS the NORM here!

As for your "getting emotional" comment... It's not an exaggeration to say that this forum was instrumental in mentally surviving my looooong recovery after my serious accident last August. I was blown away by the number of well-wishes in the hospital and during recovery. People sent movie suggestions, phone numbers, and even the coolest care package that caught me on a very rough day in the rehab place. This last week, people invited me to meet for dinner...asked me to trail ride...and even offered travel help these last several days on the road. That's just how this place rolls.

So ya. This 200 forum is more than amazing.
-Been a life saver for me.

Oh, I'll be armoring up! :hillbilly:

I'm not shy about running heavy. -Just curious what it actually comes to...
