Was a great day on the trail. All the rigs did well with zero breakage. We pulled a lot of cable it's one tough trail. I was impressed with all the drivers !
Ben in the double cab mini pickup RHD was the stand out, He made every obstacle with out winching. His truck is well built and he is a outstanding driver.

We ran trails with Ben and His Dad everyday of the Event super nice people and always ready to lend a hand and help out.
I’ll be hitting it next week! I’m stoked

Ran Hell’s revenge today.
Was a lot of fun with some drama mixed in.

They where making a video and he was lifting a tire for the shot.
Took a second run at itand pushed it too far on Hell’s Gate View attachment 3892039View attachment 3892040I had just made a clean run of the obstacle and was sitting on top.
So I jump right in on the rescue and winched him up with without so much as a thank you. 🧐🤷‍♂️
Pretty rare to see someone tip on that obstacle.

If you keep the right line it's a pretty easy obstacle.
The white Lexus on portals in our group also flopped that day further down and on the passenger side. With spotting he was able to back out of it on his own power.
A few years ago as I was pulling up a Flopped Jeep was being recovered. Making it not so rare in my experience 🤷‍♂️

The last day of the of the event we ran Top of the world, We ran the loop backwards making it more challenging. Most run it in and out keeping to the right on the way in.

I see people fall into the crevice on the passenger side and scratch up the side of they're vehicle fairly often, but they've always been able to keep driving because the wall is fairly vertical.

They posted a thank you yesterday. But was vague about it yesterday.

Getting ready to smog the old girl so I was pulling out the overdrive fan pulley and found this

I don't get it the fan shows no damage and it's newer along with the fan shroud. The motor mounts are newer as well, probably 4 years old and less then 10k miles.
I don't know what else could've caused the damage besides the fan hitting it.
Is it possible that the blue fan hub is wider pushing the fan closer to the shroud ? @landtank @jonheld @Malleus

Fan shroud part number 16711-66030 and still available. If the fan shows no damage and you heard nothing then the fan probably never contacted the shroud. From the pic, I don’t see any marks on the shroud that a rotating fan would have left.

It's hard to say, Looks like it may have been just lightly rubbing the shroud and wore it thin making easy to break

I always wondered how some guys made it through some of those deep water crossings without fan or radiator damage.

Any chance the heavy winching you did recently might have caused it?

Just spit balling ideas.

Bad fan shroud? That looks like brittle plastic breaking apart.
It was replaced a few years ago 🤷‍♂️

It's possible.

I’ve had the fan cut my radiator. Turned out that there is enough play in the bolt holes for the radiator mount at h to he bottom to allow that to happen. I loosened them and could shift the radiator forward a good amount and the retightened them. No issues afterwards.

I've had my fan/shroud in and out a dozen times over the years. The only thing I can think of is that the bottom of the shroud was not seated properly to the radiator. The fan blades might not have contacted the shroud, but if the shroud was twisted it could have fatigued.

It could’ve been a feral cat at home or small critter while camping, nested in there and scrambled to get out on a start up. You probably didn’t even notice it except as an odd noise. One of the things that has been recommended in the last several years, while you’re out camping, is to pop the hood and leave it open while your rig is parked, and not being used. It helps to keep critters from nesting in your engine compartment. Just a thought.

Good pre trip maintenance on the winch for that nasty double line pull. Got to remember to pamper that front diff in reverse.

If it’s not captured at the bottom … the wind at HWY speed could be pushing it back into the fan and you would never hear it
