Bolt on turbo kit (16 Viewers)

Unless of course you have plans outside of the scope of this kit of which...I don't want to know.

Oh you know someone is going to buy your kit, have the fancy Wits' End Turbo sticker, the CARB sticker......then go crazy, big injectors, stand alone, ridiculous intercooler zip tied to the grill, running 20 psi+.....and show up for their emissions testing anyway.

My two cents on the intercooler:

My personal experience was that the intercooler made a big seat-of-the-pants difference. In fact, if you dig through my turbo build, you will find a quote in there somewhere that essentially says, "don't bother unless you're getting an intercooler." Once I got the intercooler and scoop sorted out, was when I really became satisfied with the project.

HOWEVER, I totally understand the considerations for not offering it immediately (or at all)
1) I know the intention of this kit is to be price-equivalent to a TRD supercharger. Intercooler would push the price well past that, especially if designing something that will fit up with everyone's setup without cutting up any parts of the truck. A lot of design time and custom pieces needed to make sure it's a OCD-approved fit and works with dual batteries, burrito cookers, york compressors, winches, bumpers and all the other crap people have under their hoods and in front of their trucks.
2) Different people have different thoughts on configuration. My preference is front mount air-to-air, and I know I'm in the minority there. And it definitely wouldn't work with the above-mentioned accessories for most people.

THAT SAID, if an A/W cooler were available at the same time the turbo kit rolls out, I would take one, even if it isn't my preferred cooling method. Mainly because I would trust a simple fit and installation and spend less time in the garage cursing and chopping up my truck. If the intercooler isn't available right away (or within a few months of release of the kit), I will probably do my own thing, which may involve duct tape and zip ties Yes, Joey, you can interpret that as a vote to hold off on offering the kit until the intercooler is sorted, if you wish Ultimately, I trust your judgment.

@djsixbillion had Bell make intercoolers & you could buy the core or the full kit at one point. Old thread but what I had sitting around with a S/C until last week, sold both the S/C & I/C kits.

I am getting the turbo kit and I want an IC but I understand where Joey is coming from breaking up the project.

I would rather ‘have a turbo in hand (on my rig) than a turbo and IC in the bush (not in production)’.

Eventually. I don't do instructions typically on my stuff because:
• If you need instructions maybe you should get a Jeep or FJC
• If you need instructions maybe I haven't designed it correctly

The Y of the Y-pipe will need to go BUT the location of the O2 sensor cannot change. So somewhere between that front oxygen sensor and the new downpipe, will be a new flange that gets welded on once the Y is removed.

So I just got the magnaflow 23120 ordered from O'Reilly and it comes with the Y pipe of course. Should I cancel my order?

Normally I would take your advice whole heartedly but 1. I don't want to buy anything thats not going to work with Joey's kit and 2. I'm in the middle of a head gasket repair and pretty much replacing everything with OEM as I go so I would rather allocate the funds to the kit.

So here is the conundrum...

A. Keep that and use as a new cat but basically everything up to the actual "Y" and to the two flanges gets cut off in place of a single flange that will then bolt to the new downpipe.
B. Dont use that at all because I have the same and it hasn't lasted me two years before the honeycomb detached and started making a huge racket.
C. I still need to work things out for Ryan @OTRAMM to make a kit that will bolt up but I'm not there yet.
D. I still may be making a kit that moves everything to the other side of the frame, haven't decided.
E. CARB EO cats are playing a big role in some of my exhaust decisions.

Agree with this 1000% although I will not be utilizing zip ties or duct tape

Don't underestimate my ability to screw up a part!!!

Just yesterday I screwed in the oil pressure sending unit in the wrong spot on the block and messed up the threads...that's an $80 OEM part. Luckily a buddy had an extra one from an old block.

For me, this is the first vehicle I've done any true automotive work on.

Don't underestimate my ability to screw up a part!!!

Just yesterday I screwed in the oil pressure sending unit in the wrong spot on the block and messed up the threads...that's an $80 OEM part. Luckily a buddy had an extra one from an old block.

For me, this is the first vehicle I've done any true automotive work on.
