I know a few people are talking about doing HG in prep for this kit. If those people have to do a HG and take the lower pan off also i would consider pulling the motor. It would give nice acces to do all the work at once and knock out the rear arch and main seal. I am not saying this as a negitive it would just combine two big project. You could also do a lot of PM really easily with the motor out. Befor adding a turbo or SC obviouly you want a healthy coolant system. So you might even have the radiator out, then water pump, fan, oil pump cover, front seal and the list goes on. I know this can all be done in the truck but if you do it all at once pulling the motor might be a good option. Just a idea even though i know it is not needed.

I wholeheartedly agree to pulling the engine, even just for the head gasket project. There are so many items that needs to be addressed at this age that pulling the engine just makes sense to me. Frankly, I can pull the engine faster than just pulling the head alone and prefer it. Bending over for hours for a HG job vs doing it on the stand is a no brainer for me and for my back!

Georg @ Valley Hybrids perhaps? Not Sac however, Frenso.
I would say worth the trip. He gets booked out a ways, but knows his business.

No. Never again. Had to redo a bunch of work they did on my truck and work they did that I didn’t ask for. Gave a very specific list and they failed to do all the items and then did things not asked for. A $4500 mistake.

Wow, thats new. I've never heard of any issues with him. :hhmm:

Can you do it yourself and farm out the head work ?

Yes, in theory, we should all do our own work. But I have 2 small kids now and time isn't as abundant like the single days, plus I don't have the garage space for it. I don't know, I might attempt it but very unlikely.

Literally in the same boat. Love to do my own work, but limited space and time means I'll probably have to give it to a shop to do.

If I was in your position, I would somehow get it to Georg @ Valley Hybrids. You cannot get better than his shop...in my humble opinion.

Camelback Toyota in Phoenix Arizona most likely does more 80 series HG at a great price than anyone is the US. Guys send there 80 series for all over to have it done there. At any given time of the year there is normally at least one under the HG knife.

PM for a contact number

Not sure if I can ask this but what's their price and turnaround time?

Like any job depends on how far you want to take it. Mine was PM and was around $1K IIRC. Again time is how much gets outsourced like matching injectors or head work. Top notch Toyota dealership and one of the few owned by Berkshire Hathaway AKA Warren Buffett.

Full disclosure - I do not work for Camelback Toyota just another happy satisfied customer.

Agreed! They did my HG and for an extra $100 had the head ported and polished. Very professional, top notch work! Props to Jared who did the work! Great discount on parts for mudders!

Mounting gauges in preparation! My goal was to monitor all of the necessary parameters with as few individual gauges as possible. I didn't want to advertise with a pillar pod so I'm mounting them below the climate controls in an autometer 2237 mount.

AEM Failsafe:

UGH! I FINALLY have all of the vacuum kit worked out and sourced. I'm including as many OEM pieces as I reasonably can that should be changed with the addition of the turbo. Included is new clamps, new vent hose, new evap hose, new booster check valve and grommet, and new evap check valve and OEM 3.5mm vacuum hose ready to go.

All of these vacuum kits are now assembled and ready to go. ;)
