I got mine at a little shop that does a lot of RC cars and such. Believe it or not, they use the stuff as limited slip diff fluid!

Yeah, I went to all the local shops. Non of them carried it for some reason.

Good call Rick! IIRC all Snap-on Phillips screwdrivers conform to JIS standard 4633B-3/1991. Read: Don't ask for a "Japanese" Phillips head on the Snap-on truck... The problem with US screwdrivers is they tend to have too sharp a point. This is usually only found in #1, and sometimes #2 Phillips. 4633B has to do with the tighter tolerance in manufacture of the tip land area.

A good reason to visit the snap-on truck and spend exponentially more money for the logo.

I fix Japanese copier for 21 year.
Snap-on screwdrivers are the best tool I ever had (the one I actually use is a 12 years old tool

Just my 2 cents

BTW, very interesting thread

LOL, I worked on Canon copiers from 1980 through 1996.
You know what silicon oil is !
:)
Toshiba first, Canon from 1990 to 1999, Sharp, Kyocera, copier break as network troubleshooter and now Sharp for 3 years in Canada

Do the eaton clutches actually say eaton on them? I just changed the fluid in mine and I believe it is a aftermarket unit :frown:

It defiantly works better with 10k in it than before but something is odd. The temps are actually 3-5 degrees warmer than before but the fan is spinning much faster than before. Don't really understand why.

Is this oil OK for my fan? It was only $3.99 for 60ml

That's only 1000cst oil. Depending on which fan clutch you are refilling, you are going to want at least 7000cst oil, if not 10-20k. What clutch is it?

Whats the best clutch/oil combo?

There is no one best combo. It depends on where you live and the temperatures your rig will experience. The oil is cheap and the fan clutch is fairly easy to R&R so experimenting is the best way to find what works for you.

You are right I asked for 10,000 I didn't even notice! I'll have to return it.

97 FZJ80 Setup:
- Late-model blue hub
- ~45ml of 30,000 cst OFNA silicone
- valve timed per LT's instructions (half open @ ~95˚F)
- new foam weather stripping along top of radiator to minimize bypass air between top of radiator and condensor
- 99˚F ambient, 23% relative humidity, idling in the shade for ~15 min.
- AC set to recirculate

Result:
- 53˚F vent temp

Previously:
- fan clutch timed for approx. 110˚F
- ~35ml of 10,000 cst
- ~90˚F ambient,
- the air was tepid during lower rpm and/or lower speed operations, particularly stop-and-go driving.

- valve timed per LT's instructions (half open @ ~95˚F)
- good OEM foam along top of radiator to minimize bypass air between top of radiator and condensor
- 99˚F ambient, 23% relative humidity, idling in the shade for ~15 min.
- AC set to recirculate

Result:
- 53˚F vent temp

This past weekend I drained the 18 month old blue clutch and put in 35ml of 20k. The fan roars for 1 minute at start-up then kicks in when hot. Today it was 104. AC, Fan and 12" pusher fan ran great all day. Engine temps on the gauge showed about 40 to 45%. AC was cold and I'm impressed. I've never really heard the fan like this before. Fuel mileage will probably suffer a bit in the summer, but engine temps are controlled.

My 94 has the black hub clutch, sorry for being dumb but what is the purpose of the blue hub? It engages earlier? What vehicles did the blue hub come out of? Anywhere to source these?

Tons of information available may I suggest search young jedi

Last time I visited this thread 7,000-10,000 cst seemed to be the thickest people were putting in. I'm going to have to up mine since the 7000 isn't really cutting it. Some of you are running 10k-20k now?
