HeHe you misunderstood me, Black Balsam most def. requires 4WD and can be quite fun for a stock 4x4 vehicle........ All the other FS around the area don't require 4WD is what I was saying:hillbilly:

If I can get the stock 80 in there with road tires and no lockers you won't have a problem. Just be prepared to get some pin striping.

There are quite a few fs roads in pisgah. There is a trail system that goes by the fish hatchery off 276. As well there is a road near the pink beds that is nice. Pretty much any road off 276 in pisgah will be a fs road unless it's a camp site or picnic site.

anyone else game for checking them out?

the tropical storm might reach mtns by sunday afternoon and that might mnean water crossings

i have to leave fairly early sunday unless weather hits us. My daughter is getting baptized that night at lake hartwell.

I was hoping to meet up with the campers around 930 or 10am, and thought there was some fs trail driving action planned. Maybe I will go to Pisgah and explore some roads, unless anyone else has another suggestion.

Anyone wanting to meet up is cool too.

I am driving my 88 62 with an older 2.5" ome lift, locker in the front and a warn m12... but I was not planning on using any of it on this trip. I will have a newbie passenger and a dog with me.

i plan on hanging around all day sunday to explore the FS roads.

If you wanna meet us at the camp sunday morning i'll be taking everything down first thing in the AM in preperation of possible storms/winds/heavy rains from the storm.

anyone else game for trail riding/searching sunday AM?

if the trail riding is planned for sunday, then what is the plan for saturday?

i'm open to suggestions! Scouting trails, a bit of hiknig, eating, relaxing, having a few beers, maybe a nap????

I'll know for sure tomorrow if I am gonna be off work to make this trip....I plan on comin in Saturday and camping that night with Henley....what road and area are y'all camping in?

gimpy should be able to give much better directions than i can.

I hope we can snag the big camp site at the end of the FS road that will hold 30-40 rigs. That way there will be plenty of room for 3-5!

Chuck - there's a small chance I'll make this trip and if I do, I'll be coming on Sat. If our schedules happen to line up we could go in together. I made this trip last year and it was awesome.

Major props (again) to JP and his better half for getting there early and claiming the spot. That is absolutely key IMO, someone needs to hustle and get there early on Friday.

Wanna tell them how early you left home JP??

Lets just say I watched the sunrise on the trail in......

and chuck there is only one road in and one road out you can't miss it, and that is saying a lot for someone like yourself:flipoff2:

yeah well we will not be there that early. I think josh is working till 12. Probably be every bit of 3pm by the time we get there. Oh by the way jimbo and dohcdelsol what time u guys gonna meet at the house??

it is my understanding that most of the hikers go further in to camp. I have never been in there.

I plan on being at your house by 1. Will try to be there even earlier if possible. Trying to get all the work out of the shop by the end of the day so friday is a screw off day

From my experiences up there, the hikers don't want to camp anywhere around the road/trail they are usually off in the woods somewhere. You guys will be competing with other 4x4 guys for the camping spots. That area is hugely popular this time of year because the balds up there are covered in wild blue berries and they will be ripe for harvest. So you will likely see tons of folks walking down the road with 5 gallon buckets full of blue berries.

make sure you guys take lots of pics for those of use that can't be there!!
