ok need help. I'm in the middle of doing the rotors and bushings and managed to get grease all over me somehow. When I removed the locking hub the gasket on the WARN hub tore. WHere's the best/faster place to order a new one from, I dont want this rig sitting for too long?

I've replaced brakes and rotors before, but I completely underestimated the land cruiser job. Will post pictures later tonight or tomorrow.

Was it paper? You can cut your own out of paper gasket material that you can get from any parts store if you're really in a pinch.

Not the one that goes here,

those look the same as the aisin hub gaskets so your (local) toyota dealer of choice should have them.

ok just ordered this from fjparts.

was hoping to be done in one day.

On a different note, the shackle holders (not sure of the proper term, It's the part that connects the shackle to the frame) are off. one is off by 2.2* and the other by 2.5*. It's noticeably crooked, Looks like i might get the welding guys at the community college to fix it. but that will be a few weeks down the line.

trying to avoid the dealership, they wanted $30 for my power steering cap, plus everytime I try to order from them it takes them a few days to get my parts in. I have plenty to work on while I wait for the stuff to ship.

I didn't get as much done as I hope. I wasn't expecting the brake job to be a pain in the ass. I also had to order a gasket for the hubs. You guys make it look so easy in your write ups and your pictures. I spent an hour fighting with the last freaking bushing. All the other bushings cooperated, but this last one would not go in. I had to get some help.

anyway here's what's happened so far. This is where I am with the brakes. I took the rotors, calipers and hub off. When The gasket gets in I'll repack the bearings and reassemble

This wasn't soo bad once I was able to find the bent lock nut ( i think that's what it's called)

Cleaned them up, going to reuse the seal since it's nearly brand new.

Here's the new and old rotor. There better be some improvement in braking for all the hassle this was.

finally the last bushing hole. PITA

I need to work on my handbrake. It only brakes on one tire right now. Will try to get the shackle mount rewelded better, but that might be two weeks away since I haven't yet tackled the shims to correct the caster.
Thanks to all of you who wrote me earlier when I needed help getting the gasket ordered.

I think I'm going to go ahead and replace the bearings for peace of mind. Where is the best place to get koyo bearings and races for the 62 other than the dealership?

Also this side, the grease wasn't as red ad the other side, is that from humidity or water greeting in?

Plus the axles had slight burn marks on them. There's no pitting though. What causes that?

Kurt at cruiser outfitters has Koyos, Onur or Sam Stewart could probably get you great prices on them as well.

Maybe the grease is different from one side to the other? Or maybe it could have something to do with the burn looking marks on the spindle? getting too hot in there or something... of course, I'm probably wrong :D

Keep it up

No, you're spot on. Burn marks are either from the bearing preload being too loose, or being too tight. Either case would cause the bearings to overheat and discolor the spindle. If this happened (looks like it did), the grease would burn and change colors (darken).

So Patrick, you hit the nail on the head :D

good call Patrick. So the solution is new bearings?

In a perfect world, it would be a new spindle and new bearings. However, replacing the bearings and races would suffice.

thanks Johnny and Patrick. The spindle doesn't have any pitting or grooves, just discoloration. I guess right now I'm just waiting on parts to show up.

I'm at the store placing some orders and the I just remembered I need grease. What the best kind of grease to use to repack everything in the hub/spindle assembly?

I got all this stuff In the mail yesterday. New fairlead, front license plate holder that goes over the fairlead, brake hoses, hub gaskets. I'm still waiting on the koyo bearings to show up and the seals.

Looking to get good grease for the bearings since I don't plan on doing this job again in the near future. I know I need to go with high temp bearing grease, is there a preference on synthetic vs regular? Also any info on the grease pictured here?
