Looks to me like you had a catastrophic wheel bearing failure. Bummer man, that kind of thing is expensive to repair.

Collaterl damage has yet to be seen, don't get him all spun up just as he is shipping out!

^^^ Glad you made it to the shop safe. Perfect timing on the hub swap, as it seems the front end will be coming apart anywho.

Yeah, he's going to order portal axles now. :)

Not an exhaustive list:

1. Improper bearing preload
2. Improper use of star (locking) washer between the spindle nuts
3. Failed bearings (wore out and not checked often enough)
4. Improper lubrication (seal failed, all the grease came out)

Running spacers and high offset wheels will put more wear on the outer spindle bearing, and much faster, so it's something that really needs to be kept on top of.

I spoke with Edwin at land cruiser specialist, he says the knuckles still look good. The hub came loose and my bearing is all chewed up and needs replacing. He suggested I also replace my rotors. So hopefully I'll be driving big red pretty soon.

Here's an update.

I have all new front brakes, rotors and calipers in and the new aisin hubs installed, should be ready for pick up tomorrow.

The heat welded metal parts to the race

Trashed bearings and hubs, not reuseable

Somehow the studs backed out, which is better than then shearing off. Waiting on the new parts to come in.

I got it back today and drove it in the rain. Much better feel.

Looks like i'll want to re-add the mechanical fan to help out the electrical one. The electric fan works well until highway speeds then the engine heats up to about 205. I noticed the fender gets really hot near the large turbo. I'm not sure if it's a new development or I just didn't notice it before.

These showed up today for my other toy.

I was hoping to install them this weekend, but it's getting valve adjustments and a new clutch. So next week it is.

Just drop those boxes off at the shop doing the clutch, theyll have most of the exhaust off anyway, already up on the lift and all...

It's been raining here, had some flash flooding which caused some damage at the parks. Decided to go explore a bit and go over some water crossings. I didn't really take any good pics of the water crossing, but did manage to get big red stuck in 4wd for a bit, but all is good now.

The water was high enough to damage signs, electric poles and some walking bridges.

You have Tarantulas in Texas or did somebody let there’s go?
We have them in Texas. This one happened to be crossing the road when we were driving. Stopped to take a pic because the wife is all about nature.

Decided to change the oil, but it started to sprinkle. Pulled the front end into the garage and changed out the oil. Surprisingly I didn't spill any oil this time. Went for a drive after that.

What oil brand do you use Mike?
I used to use Shell Rotella, but switched to Valvoline. I've occasionally used Delo or whatever premium oil is on sale that's Cummins approved. I also added zinc additives.

You mean Rosmellya. That oil for some reason has a distinctive smell for the first 500 or so miles after an oil change. I bought it on sale for my Dodge 3500 and had a nasty burnt oil smell. Researched it and found it was known for this. After about 500 miles it was gone. Did you notice this with the 4BT?
