Small update.

Installed the mechanical temp gauge, Edwin used the turbine in Dave's borrowed turbo and it worked. He was getting 14psi and counting when he ran out of street. Can't drive it too far from the shop, it's still without a front end, hood or inspection sticker. I'll be going down there tomorrow to drive it around. I guess I need to order a CHRA for the turbo and that should solve all my boost issues. I'll try to post up a video tomorrow if I can. Thanks again Dave.

the power steering reservoir is hooked up now and it makes life so much easier. Took apart the inline pump and moved the fuel plate all the way to the left. Now boost hits about 20psi before running out of road. I'm still looking for a cartridge for the HX30W, if i don't find one soon I might just buy Dave's. Tomorrow I'm going to put an air filter on the turbo, the air box doesn't fit so one needs to be made. Monday I'm getting the exhaust welded. Then I'm gonna drive it for a few days to give Edwin a break. After that it's the AC and debugging, should be ready for the trails.

here is the inline pump. Took it apart and pushed the fuel plate. It significantly increased power.

This is the turbo housing I have, still trying to source the cartridge, but in the meanwhile I'm using Dave's.

Dave thanks for coming down and introducing me to more cruiserheads in the Austin area. It's amazing what a turbo and tweaking of the injector pump will do for power on this engine. It's almost done, a few more things here and there and I'll make it my summer DD. On Monday I'm taking it to get the exhaust done. Then when the bumper and winch are back on I'll get it inspected. In a week or two I'll come back to get the AC mounted.

the air filter we put in while we figure out an airbox

EDIT:The power steering on this thing makes a difference of day and night.

Looking great man.
You might want to swap out that worm drive clamp on your silicone U for a t-band clamp especially when you start to crank that boost out.

Stevo,
Thanks, I'll get the t-band clamps installed as soon as I get it back

Dave
Just dropped it off today, getting a straight pipe with no muffler. I also ordered the turbo cartridge. I should have it by Thursday. Plan is to get it inspected and drive the hell out of it for a week. Then come back and finish off the AC.

It would drive better with these!!! Custom made..just for you! Let me know when you get the truck back so we can measure the shifter threads and install them. :D

Mark, you have great timing.I was looking at one similar to the eagle globe and anchor on ebay just last night. Save me one of them. The truck should be back at the shop tomorrow, I'll be in Dallas and hope to have the rig on Thursday. I'm sure Edwin can give you the measurements before I come back.

This just got texted to me. I pick it up tomorrow and get the inspection done. Then I'm gonna drive it until I run out of road. It's not done yet, still need AC and troubleshooting whatever comes up.

the exhaust crosses over to the driver side then straight back

quick update,
Got Red home. I couldn't go through inspection because apparently diesels need a muffler now. Drove like a dream on the highway, hit 70 with no real issue. My EGT is running high (i think) it's around 12 with psi around 12. Not sure if that's normal or how I can fix it.
Post up your speed, egt and psi if you can so I can get a good comparison. Let's see what else, I love the thing, sounds like a semi but moves much faster. I'll post up pictures later tonight.
Oh and there's a small oil drip, looks like it's coming from the oil filter or around that area. I guess the troubleshooting phase has started.

Looks great, love the look of the maxxis tires as well.

1200 is hot, especially with an IC, is that the max temp you got it to or an average while driving highway?

My 6BT with dennyT fuel pin and no IC only hits 12 under heavy throttle on the highway (Ill get maybe 30psi boost otherwise stock with fuel pin), most of the time cruisin it runs 6-900 at 55-65mph.

Maybe it has to do with your timing or over fueling, is it smoking at idle at all or makes lots of black when your heavy on the skinny?

After driving it some more last night I would say the average is 10 egt with about 10 to 12 boost doing about 65. This may be from over fueling, it smokes a little under hard acceleration. It gets up there pretty fast and at one point the person following me with my gli had trouble catching up after being separated by a stop sign. The water temp reads between 180 and 190. I think that's good and average, but I may be wrong. It's definitely a better engine than the 3fe. At some point I need to upgrade to stronger brakes I'm using the engine to slow and stop it.

Sounds like you're having a blast now. Your water temps are fine but your EGTs are high. I wish I could tell you how to tweak your pump, but I only know how to do it on a VE pump (really easy).

From what I can tell, it's just sliding that fuel plate back. Wanna do lunch? I'll be by Edwin' s to pick up a few things. And yes I'm loving it.

Ditto on 1200F (pre turbo temp probe) being hot for normal driving. I too can hit 1200+ on big hills and heavy throttle hits but I also am around 7-900F for cruising temps at 50-70 mph. My boost range is 5-7psi when cruising and I can currently hit 25-26psi on full throttle hits but I have a different turbo.

Your water temp is good, 190F is a good spot to be for the diesel.

Tuning can change your power, boost, and EGT levels. It's a balance between those.

Here are the pics I meant to post up last night. The first official diesel fill up, the front and front-side view. The fill up still hurts the wallet, so time to get serious about making my own biodiesel.
