Bi-fold Door Vertical Seals

The extruder finally got back to me. They tried increasing the height of the void while maintaining the same overall height. The change resulted in the seal collapsing on itself. After several attempts, it just didn't work. So, I have requested that they go back to the original design.

I'll let you guys know as soon as I hear when I can expect to have seals for distribution.

Thanks,

Jason

I'll put you on the list. Yup, have the horizontals too....

Haven't heard back on an ETA on the verticals yet. Accounts payable did contact me for payment on the tooling. Had to explain that I prepaid for that back in August sine I wasn't a commercial account. Gotta love it!

Got another sample for the vertical seal in the mail yesterday. I was not anticipating that. After talking with the extruder, they explained that they did another sample since the had played with the tooling and wanted to insure that I would be happy with the final production. Would have been nice to know they were doing that!

Anyway, my plan is to review the sample cross sections tonight and hopefully give another go ahead on the production.

The extruder has assured me that they will be honoring the unit prices they quoted me because they delay was on them. They finally did admit that small projects like this are given low priority. Next go around, my time projections will be more like 6-9 months for a similar project.

Yeah, it was good. Matched the earlier sample. We tried to reduce the wall thickness to allow for more compression, but it kept collapsing.

I'm in for a set when they're ready. What do you guys source for the bi-folled rollers that go in groves on bi-fold doors?

Hey guys,

Had another mud member try the vertical seals on a straight, restored bi-fold. Seals fit well, but they would not compress enough to seal or allow the door to latch.

Since the extruder had not made the production run, I asked them to hold off. I don't want a bunch of seals that don't work.

My plan is to continue to search for a foam producer that is willing to take on a small project like this. Maybe I'll get lucky and find one that is slow....

Sorry for stringing this along and stopping it at this point. I'll post an update whenever I find something.

Hmm. Hate that. But probably the best decision. No change they will try to make another sample?

Well I'll take a set of horizontals anyway.

And thank you very very much for all the time you spent with this.

Thanks for understanding guys. If you want the horizontals, just PM me your PayPal address and the number of sets you need. I'll then send you a payment request.

Just kept hitting dead ends in my search for a foam extruder. I still have the horizontals. Enough for one cruiser is 72.35 shipped in the us.

Chachie,

I believe Specter still caries the seals for the rear and side windows. Cruiserparts.net has the bug catcher reproduction window seals. I just got some generic seal from JC Whitney for my windshield years ago, but maybe one of the vendors I mentioned above carries it?

The vertical seal installs on the inside edge of the door opening. There is a 3/4" recess along that edge that it fits right in. The seal will need to installed with a weatherstrip adhesive. I installed the sample with some two sides tape...

Jason
Jason,

years later...do you still have any of the bifold door weatherstripping? working on my 65 fj40.

Thanks, Louis
