Some cheap & easy convenience mods from a rainy weekend-

Dremeled a Tacoma divider to fit into the center console, made things a lot more organized than the mystery hole;

Spent $50 on lumber and hardware to make a rear shelf, hoping to use the bottom area with bins for quick access to clothing. Love how much space I gained but might eventually re-stain it a tad darker;

Burley mil surplus. Stout straps and spring-claps. 3 straps on one sidethree on other and one side has claps as well.

*EDIT*
Rear visibility's pretty good too, 3 jackets up there now...

Nice! I used racecar window netting. By using a bar on both ends, it can be centered over the rear cargo area without affecting 2nd row headroom. Excuse the mess, this was during test fitting with a bunch of other stuff.

Can anyone recommend a Sun Shade that fits well?
i like the rhino rack sunseeker (but have a pro-deal discount via wife's employer). I got the 2.0 but the 2.5 would actually be great as well...
I was able to mount it directly to the factory sidebars too (despite rhino rack's caution they can't be used on factory racks ;)

I think the brand ones are all pretty much about the same, but definitely not sub $100...

BUT, for the DIYer, this looks a'ight! and fits the sub $100 bill...

I have the sun seeker 2.5 and I pulled it off to replace with a 2.0. The 2.5 is too long for the roofline in my opinion. My mpg did go up .5 when I pulled it by the way...

@ArBrnSnpr
That's good to know. Thanks.
It Validates my original thought; I got 2.0, then when mounted It looked like 6" on either side wouldn't've been horrible, but you just validated that then I'll is a bit long (what are you fitting it on?) Do you have some pix of it mounted? What rack mounting to?

I have the 80/20 cross bars and had my awning mounted to the front and rear of my 4 bars.
The extra 6 inches seemed like something I could live with at first but it just wore on me until I pulled it off.

huh. seems like good shade though, but it really did wear on you huh? bummer. When deploying mine, in the desert, the shade patch does seem smaller than i'd like, especially as we haven't deployed at high noon, so the angle always makes the shade a little less than one wants...

still have it?
(question.. what suspension is under there?)

I do still have it - want to trade?

I'm running Icon 2.5 long travel up front and 2.0 Icon/Metaltech extended travel rears.

I'll be jumping up to 2.5 in the rear soon.

I just changed my wheels to bronze FN Five Stars with 285/70 Ko2's since that picture though.

Edit: just realized my back end looks pretty high in that picture - it's a sloped driveway. I'm about 2.5" over stock.

Trasharoo makes a nice place to store stuff on my interior mounted spare.

^ does you (or anyone's) light in the console work? ;)

:hhmm: not sure it works in either of our GXs

actually, the white one has the CD player in that cubby, because the rear of the console houses the video controls

the DSRTGX is the poverty pack, so no video, and CD player in the back of the console

Maybe I have the only working console light in existence? No-KDSS... Nav system... grandma gold... but I have a tiny working light! I knew my Goldie was special!

I just picked up my tape-deck mount from OWL Expeditions. I'll have to get some photos up once it is installed, but it should be a great mod that adds a ton of functionality in a small and subtle package.

I need to look again . . .

I'm looking for similar angles but that's all I've got. The 2.5 looks strikingly longer than the 2.0.
Sunseeker 43sq ft shaded area
Sunseeker 55.38 sq ft shaded area
Mine measures 80" (only 6.5" long) on the outside of the closed package, so the actual awning is less than that (wide)... is it 7' long, deployed? and the 2.5 is 8' wide and also 7 long (rolled out)?. I'll have to mount, deploy and actually measure it for width and length. Yours as pictured does look significantly longer (= moar shade).
emoji_u1f914.png

yeah if the 2.5 is truly 8' long, whereas the 2.0 is 6.6 long and both are same width rolled out, then the 2.5 provides way more shade. the 2.5 could be close to 1.5' longer than the 2.0.
so if 2.0 is like 6.5*7 that's 45sq ft
and if 2.5 is like 8*7 that's 56 sq ft.
hmmmmm . . . .

Moar shade for the scorching desert. . . . hmmmmmmm lemme give it a think

I replaced all my door molding/weatherstrip. Waiting to do the 1/4s. I ordered from Amayama as they seemed to have better pricing and it got here right at one week from ship date. I found Megazip prices higher than in ScatAdams post.

I also threw this into the order :grinpimp:. Just to be different and funny. It was only $18.

Thanks to @nuclearlemon for pointing me to Amayama. I found it even though I misspelled it at the cruiser show.

Interesting. I may look into this badge. It will fit perfectly where the previous owner stupidly had a sticker that I have only been able to remove 75% of. Damn thing is NOT coming off.
