If I was to do it all over again I would go diesel....

7k for an engine is a lot, but once it is set in place under the hood... is not any more.... even less a few years down the road.......

I'm trying to avoid going SOA.

I was concerned about the SOA lift but have gotten used to it. Some type of running board or slider really helps getting in and the power of a 6BT in a FJ60 is addictive and mine averages about 22 mpg. Don't know if the cost of a conversion can be justified by resale value but that wasn't a factor in my decision as I've owned it for 20 years and the 6BT makes it the vehicle I always wanted it to be.

I've owned SOA trucks in the past. It's OK, but you loose a lot of the day to day utility that a stock/semi-stock truck gives you. Plus, I'm getting too damn old to be lifting 35"+ tires.

Why would you rather go diesel if you have a LS?

Don't get me wrong... i love the power and reliability of the LS... and can go around 750 miles in one tank... but with a diesel i could probably go over 1k.... that's the only reason... but that's not enough reason to switch over after it's done....

Can't argue with your logic. I'm happy with mine but there are trade offs to fitting a 6BT in a Cruiser.

Finally got her home! I drove her around the block and the 2F was knocking bad and felt sluggish. The five speed felt smooth and the suspension wasn't harsh.

Spent the morning washing and scrubbing the 60. The paint is rough, but she's not bad from 10 feet. I did find some small rust bubbles that I need to grind down and treat.

She's missing the fan shroud, needs a front left side marker, and new driver side front door handle. The driver's side front fender looks to be a replacement since I can see the black primer/coating in the engine bay.

It came with four black aftermarket rims. One of them was flat so my buddy put the white spare on. I rolled the gray one over from my FJ40. I think black FJ40 rims with hub caps will look cool. Grey looks good too though.

I would agree. The black does look cool with the setup and colour of your rig.
