Nice pictures + video.

I have to edit my video. I watched it last night with the wife and kids; it was very rough. That's what happens when you drive and film at the same time. Next time, I either have to bring a co-pilot who can film, or teach Luke how to use the DV.

Had a great time out there, despite the damage. I really want to explore Truckhaven + Anza-Borrego even more now.

Wonderful, Awesome pics and video Smit! Heartsick watching and wishing I could have come! Thanks for the vicarious trip via the pics/video!

The videos have GREAT soundtracks:rolleyes: . When I edited them, I had "don't drink the water" by dave matthews for the night run and "rivers underneath" by stavesacre. They are both great songs for the videos BUT when I uploaded to youtube the songs where not on there:doh: ...owell....eminem and Death Rows Greatest Hits it is :grinpimp: :D :flipoff2:

LOL! Thanks for lunch today Smit - finally went over to the new store by South Coast Plaza for some chikin!

Great trip

That was a great trip. I'm looking forward to the next one.
Sounds like I turn around just in time. :)

Wishing you were there.webp

HEY, BIG thanks to all the guys that showed me a good time this weekend!!

I had a blast even though it was only for half a day. Next time I will definitly be spending the night.
MAN,I have new found respect for the 80 in its stock form. Only got myself in trouble one time, I was quite releaved. couldve been waay worse.

so where did you all go?

Great pics and vids. I was just over in Ocotillo with my buds for our yearly trip. The last 5 years we have done this in Borrego at peg leg but this year we moved it over to Ocatillo. Would have loved the runs you did over where I was at because there were too many woops in the trails around us. I did get the cruiser up on Superstition and was very impressed how our rigs do in the sand!!! Oh and the Blue Angels practicing overhead was a nice treat. Anyway kinda weird the two trails you guys did since they are not very close together. Sand stone canyon and coyote canyon are an unusual combo but I will definately have to do Sand stone that looked killer!!!!!

Oh and by the way my damage was a dent on the underside of my stock bumper and a bent antena. Oh and on the last run Sunday afternoon on the way back to camp I almost rolled the damn thing...... Rookie mistake and learned a HUGE lesson without the caved in roof.

We did Truckhaven and Coyote on Saturday, camped at Sheep Canyon then did Sandstone on Sunday.

Damn! Looks like i missed a great time AGAIN! :(

Hey it was really cool meeting and wheelin' with all of you! Chris, Zoey and I all had a great time (although Zoey would have had a better time sans cacti)!

Just so everybody realizes that it wasn't all fun and games, here is how Scott "rckcrwlr" MacGyver got to spend Sunday morning:

1. Strip of heavy duty garbage bag

2. Zip ties and duct tape

3. C.V. boot torn up by broken sway bar link good as new (well almost)

Nice pic Gene. You would have enjoyed the rest of the canyon, the FJC's shorter wheel base would have saved your ass. Thanks for the smoked fish and the peach cobbler, that was the bomb.

Anybody on here want to give me the run down on how to post pics on this site ?

Hey Steve. Thanks for your idea and tell Chris thanks for the help. My new Hefty Bag CV boot is still working well. My dealer wants $40.00 for the boot and $300.00 for labor. I want to do it myself, any idea of what specialty tool(s) this job would call for ?

They also want $100.00 for the weak as* front right sway bar link. There are no quick release joints on the market for the FJC but I thought one of you guys might know where to find a better price for the stock unit. I'm a cheap bastard and like to do my own work! Thanks.

1. Click Post Reply
2. Click Paper Clip option on top
3. Browse your Computer where pics located
4. Upload (easier with JPEG)
5. Repeat.
6. More pics = Post reply again etc.

Awesome PICs everybody!

Being technologically inept as I am, I pick and choose the ones I want to post and "shrink" them with my camera. I then post them up at 640X480.

The other way I do it is to put them on photobucket. But you have to download "Flock". Then you use the Flock toolbar to drag & drop them into your post. The latter method takes longer to upload all your pics but then it's just drag n drop.

I've never swapped one out myself but I know some guys on Yotatech.com with 4Runners/Tacomas I'll try to figure out a way for you to contact them.

Edit: As far as the link, if you merely want to replace it, contact CruiserDan. He's on 80's tech and has great prices. If it were me, I would straighten and "clean up" the broken link and have it "sleeved". Basically you weld a piece of tubing around the broken piece as well as cut and sleeve the not yet broken link so that they are substantially stronger than stock.
