ya know, the thing with the fire container in AB is to contain and remove the ashes (per a ranger) so a Sputnik with holes may not be exactly the thing that rangers would like to see..... (don't kill the messenger, please :) )

Eric, Eric, Eric,

You sometimes are just toooo much. You've never seen it (unless you were paying attention at Pismo Beach) and you really have no idea as to how well it works.

I've used it in AB, Pismo Beach and throughout DV. I have brought out all the ash from all trips except Pismo where we buried it unlike mose asshats at Pismo that leave the ashes on top of the sand! What little ash that does fall out the bottom, is easily shoveled into the bag I dump the ashes into. Before you go off on the ashes melting through the bag, I'll tell you that's the beauty of those 'holes' you so dislike. Sputnik burns it's fuel so thoroughly because of those little holes and the air flow they provide that there is very little ash left, and what there is is stone cold by morning (unless of course the Brokeback Boys from Napa stay up all night trying to stay warm - inside DV joke!).

Don't stick your foot in your mouth unless you really enjoy the taste! :flipoff2:

I don't know anything about Sputnik but the last time we were out in Borrego the rangers had no problem with this.

Negative, I'll sleep in a warm bed Friday night thanks. Last run in AB I think it was 3 weeks ago? Anyway I slept out on Mine Wash Road Friday night, the wind was howlin' and it was in the 20's. I had to pee all friggin' night, but no way was I getting out of my bag. LOL. See ya'll Saturday morning.

Steve,

I don't have a pic here at work. Imagine an old washing machine tub on 3" legs as a fire pit. That's sputnik.

So I had so much fun this weekend that I am having a very hard time getting back to the real world. I actually experienced quite a few firsts this weekend:

First night run
First time seeing a roll (none in our group, a heep found below)
First real body carnage (although not much, I can heat the ARB and hammer it back....ARBs are good at dozing rock underneath the sand that you don't know is there while you are vertical off a drop off and have to engage both lockers while giving some throttle and turning the wheels side to side to excavate yourself from the gound;) )
First time eating adoba....will not be the last
First time seeing the ring on Saturn.
First time seeing the craters on the moon.

ok those are just a few.

It all started about 9 o'clock Fri. night when Nikos (white Wrangler) called me from culver city area and said he is packed and ready to go when he gets off work @ 10pm. So of course I tell him that we will join him. So we arrive at Lower Coyote around 1am and decide to drive in A LITTLE and set up camp away from everything. Well we kept passing campers and decided to just keep going. He has twenty something lights on his rig and I just followed. Before we knew we were at the top, found an area to set up camp, and proceeded to drink beer around a propane lantern until time to cook breakfast and head down to meet everyone else. It was a blast.

So here are some pics.
