I keep teasing Peyton about a Pig being her first car. She ain't having it. I have a few more years to realign her priorities.

We’ll, we’re back at it…

Trying to track down a burning oil issue… Haven’t found it yet… here’s what I’ve got, possibly a bad head gasket, compression looked good, valve guides slightly sloppy, Ross forged pistons within spec, lifters wore in straight pattern, cam lobes look good, thrust plate way out of spec cam bearings in good shape, valves seats look good. Rod and main bearings look good as do the journals.

Head magna-fluxed and pressure tested it looks great. Sent the lifters and cam off to Delta cams to see if there were issues with the grind on the cam creating the poor lifter wear pattern, ordered a new snap ring and thrust plate. Valve guides will be machined and new brass guides installed, head will be re-assembled. Ordered new rings, main and rod bearings, and cam bearings. Will hone the cylinders then build.

Things needed, good exhaust manifold or new header, the rest should be good.

Body… track down rust… I won’t be pulling the body, but I’ll do my best. Roof looks great, other areas not so much, A-pillars probably the worst.

Need to find a product to paint over my Herculiner to allow a n 031 or 033 tinted Monstaliner to be applied over the top. Will be painting factory two tone green and white, with my favorite single stage MTK.

Things needed — good A pillar patch. Although I can build and patch the compound bends in the A-pillar make it difficult and time consuming to build which is why I’d like to find a good patch panel.

Picture is of the rust holes I found in the cargo windows.

Yep, ‘78. If you need additional photos let me know.

What’s the story on the 45 in the background?
Just another one of my projects I intend to eventually get to. I bought it from TLC years back, in fact there is an old thread on Mud about a barn find in MT this was the same Cruiser. It's just one of the few I still have to get back up an on the road. I have a '67 FJ45, '78 FJ55, '79 FJ55, '79 FJ40, '83 HJ47, '84 FJ60 and a '94 FZJ80. Right now the 80 and the 47 are running, the 60 is close and the rest are waiting for their turn, wish I had more time or more help. :) I know I've got a real problem, I love old vehicles. I've got a '72 Surburban and a '60 FC150, they don't run either.

BTW, anyone out there have a good cam shaft thrust plate, mine was way out of spec and they are no longer available from Toyota.

Show me pics of A pillar, might have something

I'm definitely in no hurry, I'll post in the classifieds to see if anyone has one that is more accessible. If I don't have any luck over there I still may need yours. Thanks
