ClemsonCruiser (Mr. Soprano):

There are a lot of Forest Service "gravel roads" nearby, but no ORV trails to speak of. Within 10 minutes of my house is the "Coleman Boundary," which is US Forest Service Property bordering the Parkway. It has a gravel road winding about 10 miles up to a mountain top through some of the prettiest land you will see. Some of the unprotected "drop offs" will make your stomach flip. Also, near the top of the ride is "Douglas Falls," which is a little hike in, but very pretty. This is one of the locations where they shot "Last of the Mohicans."

Not really "wheeling," but pretty country. Now, if any of you are mountain bikers, its a completely different story . . . miles and miles of sweet single track!

Respectfully,

David Davis

WEATHER UPDATE FOR COOKOUT . . .

Looks like its going to be in the 50's during the day Saturday and Dry. This is good weather for March. As soon as the sun goes down it will drop 10 degrees, so bring appropriate gear. I will have a fire blazing in addition to the Pork-O-Matic.

Don't forget to bring a camp chair.

Early arrivals are more than welcome since I will be out at the pit smoking all day.

Those of you scouting the expedition that day, you are about an hour from my house once you hit pavement. Whenever you get through, you are welcome to come over.

Alex, when you are scouting, you may want to look at the wildlife resources signs posted along the rivers and creeks to determine what type of "waters" they are. Alot of our trout streams are closed in March to fishing ("closed season"), but a number of Catch and Release (dry fly) creeks remain open.

Finally, you may want to buy my wife a beer when you get here. She is a former ranger (and now a special agent) with the US Forest Service for the Pisgah, Nantahala, Cherokee, Oconne, Uwharrie, and sometimes Sumpter National Forests. She has gov'ment wheeled most of these places and may have some contact information she can share concerning the various forests. I have asked her to gather what she can for our meeting. She is also a pretty good sport . . . I showed her some off road tires and she suggested I get an additional set of wheels for those . . . god love her.

-SEE YOU SATURDAY!!

David, this is going to be great........ many thanks to you for taking charge especially on such short notice!!!! and I think your wife has about the coolest job out there, what kind of beer does she like :grinpimp:

also if there is anything we can do or bring to help let us know.

Good point, David! Just to clarify all public waters are open to fishing in March / year-round EXCEPT Hatchery Supported / No Lure Restriction water.

There are year-round opportunities to fish water under different designations including Catch & Release Fly Only, Catch & Release Artificial Single Hook Lure, Delayed Harvest and all Wild Trout Water. Harvest limits apply by designation...

As David points out, the diamond shaped sign along the water will indicate the designation for that area.

BTW, your wife has good taste in vehicles!! ;)

THATS a good woman! I'm married to one too!:princess:

Well I am still trying to see if I will make it or not. I have the afternoon free, but will have to bring the wifes ride if I do make it. At this point trying to see if I can get a guy to make the trip with me.

Turkey, what time will food be ready 6? I just have to get back b/c I will be going to church on Sunday. Don't worry I dont drink so no worries there.

The target is 6 pm, but the BBQ will be ready by at least 5 pm. People are more than welcome to come early!

Church is a very good thing . . . I have to pick up my pastor/neighbor the next morning myself!

Just curious, will anyone there be under the legal age? Sounds like I'm the only teenager goin...might be scary....I should bring LOTS of friends.

well we have two other guys in the club your age, and quite a few of us here are attending Clemson...... so no you don't need to bring all your friends :grinpimp: If you are into cruisers you will have plenty to talk about. So don't be afraid we are good people and we are a lively bunch so you won't be board out of your mind :D

See you on Sat.

Just make sure you bring some wild turkey for JP - let the entertainment begin!! :D

While I am old as dirt I feel about 17 and act younger than that.
You'll fit in and have a good time. You will also find you have LOTS
of friends there already. This is really a FAMILY kind of club.
We talk a wild time but are really pretty laid back. At least that's
my story and I'm sticking to it. (wife is coming to keep me straight)
:grinpimp:

I'm bringing the 40 and some coleslaw. I have no idea how either one will be once we get ther. I might need get a head start on the newer cruisers as I will have to make at least one gas stop and going up hwy25 will be at about 45 mph. BUt I will be at Alans non the less.

Time?

I'd like to convoy as well... but I think it would be really really out of the way for me, seeings as I'm 3 miles from 25. And only about 45 minutes from asheville.

Marshall - put up that other action pic of JP in the kitchen, same spot. The one where he's obviously talking smack to me about his kung fu style...

You can see how the Turkey goes to his head. I am diligently trying to cook chili for the group and as you can see, JP is up to his regular antics. :grinpimp:

I need a copy of that picture anyway to prove a point to Mr. Virgo. :D
