Sam, you and @Simcoe should both come by. We can drink a couple of beers and compare our junk. Hmm...that didn't come out right. Let me know when you are back in town. We'll make it happen.

Yeah, drinking beers and comparing your junk don't mix:confused:

I second getting together when @S.CarolinaFZJ80 gets back in town. Drinking beer and wrenching on cars sounds pretty good to me. I think i'll hold off on the junk comparison situation though hahaha

Yeah the beer thing, cool but you’ve both seen my garage and you know I got more junk.
Jeez, that didn’t sound right either.
OK 2nd try;
Thanks for your invite to come over and discuss the finer things such as late 70’ and early 80’s Japanese 4x4 technologies and 40 series LandCruiser over some tasty libations.

Our 1982 has a dealer add on A/C that was installed by the original owner in 1983. It is a Customatic made in Ft. Worth, TX. It is also the same A/C that our 1978 that we bought new. Yours looks very similar, but I think the fan box may be a bit bigger. It had a York compressor that was shot when we bought it.

That looks like the one!

We took Miss Scarlet to an old time A/C and radiator shop in our small town. It is a one person, one bay shop attached to his house. Syd had to replace the compressor and dryer along with the hoses. It cost us a few hundred less than a new unit. We live at 8200 feet and a really hot day is in the low 90s, but we only have a few of those. Most summer days are mid to upper 80s. The old A/C does a good job of keeping us cool.

Good to know!

Last night I started poking around the engine bay of the truck. It appears that a hack job was done of desmogging it, or at least disabling smog components. Air rail is missing and EGR is plugged. I'm sure the air rail would be really hard to find in unmolested condition. I can't see myself trying to restore all the smog pieces to re-smog it. My hope was that everything would be in place and that all I'd have to do is rebuild the carb. Unfortunately, that is not the case. It seems like I am going down the slippery slope of a desmog at this point. I've been here before with my 60. I sure do like the simplicity of the desmog carbs. I have the Cityracer carb on my 60 and I love it. I think that for now I will slap on a spare Trollhole carb that I have in my parts bin and at least get the truck running well enough to assess other things like brakes, trans, etc.

I'm curious to know. How much of a value-add is smog to a late 40? The truck will never need inspection and is not subject to smog where I live. I have desmogged my other trucks with great success and I know exactly what to do. I just don't want to take away from the value of a rare-as-hens-teeth, mostly original late model 40. Perhaps I should just desmog it and leave as many smog pieces in place as I can just for factory appearance? What say you fine folks?

Find a 60 and rob all it’s egr parts. I have some of them I’ll send your way. (Just pay shipping). Let me know what you need.

That's a very generous offer, Deo! I may have to take you up on that. Let me see what all is missing and I will get back to you.

So Sam...let's get together when you have a chance to compare our junk. I'd like to look at what you have to see what I am missing. I may need more than just an air rail. How you like that, Mr. Huckleberry!

Think I just peed me pants! Hope my junk don’t rust :grinpimp:
