I wasn’t fond of the green color until I read all the way through the @rkymtnflyfisher build thread. It really grew on me...and now I’ve bought my first cruiser which just so happens to be green. I have to give you some credit for me ending up with a green one.

Your rust repair inspiration may be necessary in a year or two as well. If I the math correctly, it involves approximately one beer per 6.35 weld beads...

Sorry for the thread hijack

That green color is easier to hide in the woods when you’re at your secret fishing hole!

I’m glad you enjoyed the build, it was an adventure to say the least!

Send some of that snow and sun this way.

That sunshine is deceiving, it comes and goes pretty quick right now. Pretty soon it will be daylight until 10:30!

Those are the good fishing days.

Your rig is coming along very nicely, you might not even want to drive it when it’s all finished.

We’ve had pretty weird weather paired with the usual 9 or 10 hours of “daylight”. Can’t wait for the days to start getting longer.

The 72 is coming along nicely with the end in sight. It won’t get used as it was built for but I’ve got a ‘68 that will be a wheeler/driver waiting to be started soon after.

Careful what you wish for also.

It’s a big difference driving my 40 on slick roads opposed to driving a quad cab long bed dually on slick roads!
The 40 turns sideways a whole lot quicker than that 28’ long Dodge!

Out with the BMW seats an in with the originals. I reversed the rear mounts and scabbed in a piece of bar stock to move the seat back a couple of inches, I will need to drive it for a few before I call it good. So far it seems like I’ve gained some good legroom, I do like the fact the BMW seats reclined, I’ll miss that.

Since I had a frame fabbed up with the seat brackets I made for the BMW seats I had to track down the old mounting bracket for the Tuffy console. I managed to track it down in a box of workbench parts.

When I bought my 40 it didn’t have a rear heater, I’ve since installed one to help with the cold winter days, unfortunately the heater lines and the Tuffy mounting bracket want to occupy the same space. Rather than pull the heater hoses and install longer ones I opted to cut a hole in mounting bracket with a 4” hole saw. Edge guard will get installed once I track some down to protect the hoses.

If I’m satisfied with the seats I’ll pull all the mounting hardware and either paint it or powder coat it all, time will tell.

The inside of my 40 gets coated in dust from driving dirt roads in the dry months, aside from wiping it down all the time I don’t see much else I can do.

I did find the donkey dick for my jerrycans in that box of hardware.
Even though it’s a diesel nozzle it still fits in my fuel tube.

I thought I have read that the passenger seat sits an inch higher than the drivers even with the factory seats.. Is that the case?

I’ll have to go measure that, I thought they sit pretty well the same height, never really noticed though.

Man! After a decent first day of the first drill weekend of the year I finally started into this thread. I’m about 1/3 through and want to get my little wire welder home and start cutting/welding/grinding/repeat on my 40, my daughters 72, Jacamp003’s 4X and my wife’s 80....

Ok, back to beer and reading!

If you’re drinking while reading through the entire thread you’ll be drunker than a truckload of day laborers on payday once you get to the end, it’s been an incredible last few years!

Really like your thread. What back seat did you install? I will need to do a bench seat since our adopted son is just shy of three and still needs the child safety seat. We have had him since he was two months old. It has been an adventure since I'm 73 and Mrs Helipilot is 72. But he's worth it and needed a good chance at a good life.

That’s a Besttop Trailmax II fold and tumble in the back, there are a couple sizes of that particular seat, I have the wider one, fits perfectly. The seat belt issue is still under construction, I have some temped in but I’m not completely satisfied with the anchor points.

Good on you and your wife for adopting a youngster, especially at y’alls age!! That must be a handful!!! You’re special people for sure!

Thanks for the info and as I said in my original post we thought he's a great little boy and needed a chance to have a good start on his life. He has really started to blossom and we have him in a Montessori school where he is doing great. Got to get that seat on order now that the Christmas rush is over.
