It was a good time for that battery to give up the ghost, I had noticed a few months ago it seemed like it was a little sluggish when cranking the engine, even with the gear reduction starter. The date on the side of the battery was 10/15.

Seems like a fair run. The last 2 AGM batteries I put in my truck only lasted 4 years. I was reading up on the cold weather durability of AGM batteries, unfortunately like everything else, there is so much sales pitches and he said she said type of talk about them it's hard to come up with something conclusive.
You can't "repair" a battery once the hydride starts shorting out cells.

Sorry for responding to my own post, but...

Well, technically you can. I once watched a Central Asian mechanic cut open an expired battery, lift out the cells, comb them clean and put them back in, after dumping the old acid and goop out.

Resealed the battery, added fresh acid and viola! An almost new battery.

TO bearing is fine, no play and on both clips.

How was the output shaft from the transmission? I was talking to Georg about parts for a TC and Trans rebuild and he said he recommends a new transmission main shaft as that, in his experience, is a milage issue and will give a thunk. He said he replaces those with almost every combo rebuild.

I have a thunk too and first thought throwout. Now not so much on source. Anyway, maybe you already knew, thought I share just in case.

I saw absolutely nothing that would be a cause for concern.

Then again, I'm not an expert in much.

Also, I don't recall hearing anything odd before I tore into the project, I'm not saying it isn't a problem, anything is possible. A little over a month ago the Buckeye faithful were calling for a public execution of Ryan Day, now he's their hero.

I'll have to pay attention to a few things over the next several weeks to see if I can narrow it down, mainly that nut on the output shaft of the tranny.

This is the one I use: Amazon.com - https://amzn.to/4g42Fmh

I bought the accessory connectors for each vehicle to make connecting them a snap. Amazon.com - https://amzn.to/4g42Fmh

They have several models depending on your situation.
IMHO those NOCO units are pretty good. I have run the larger units (not trickle style) 5 and 10 amp versions and permanently install them in the vehicle and run the AC cord out the front. Plugs in to shore power. This way I can "top" off the AGM or lithium I am running and keep it healthy. Also work as a "trickle" charger as well. Yes I do get lots of questions like "is that a diesel"? 😂

I agree, even though this is the smallest one, it has been a champ. I keep my truck and my "vintage" Honda connected and have never had an issue starting after sitting for a long time. In Texas I got used to replacing the battery every 5-6 years, since getting the Noco I have not replaced the current 8 year old yet.

Double check your DS bolts. They'll clunk if loose but only when coming on/off the throttle. Just a thought.
I was under it last night greasing u joints on the rear ds, nothing there appeared out of the ordinary.

Tonight I might slide under it again with a pry bar and check some stuff out, I think one of the front ds u joints is on its way out, I've noticed a new vibration when it's in 4hi, bad enough that I unlock the hibs and shift back into 2hi as soon as possible.

@Ditcherman you better check the forecast, it might be worth an early trip.

I haven't checked on the Big Sky area forecast but we're setup for a big dump over here this weekend.

We fly in Sunday. As those one-week-a-year types we'll leave most of the good stuff for the locals.
Or at least the other tourists.
