I have 18" tundra five spoke steel wheels that I cleaned up and painted gun metal color. I like the look and they seem to hold up great to the abuse I've thrown at them. I found a set of tundra aluminum five spoke pictured below that are in good shape for $100. The steel wheels are so dang heavy I'm wondering if many have switched between the two and have a preference between how the vehicle drove one way or the other. I will only be out another $20 to use the mount and balancing equipment my self and have a bunch of experience doing so, I will just have the time invested which isn't much.

Just looking for feedback as far as how you thought the vehicle drove. I think my old cruiser handles great the way it is, but less rotating mass is desirable on all accounts, but then again the ole tank ways 6k lbs so it's not going to make much difference.

I switched to Tundra steel wheels from the OME alloys - both 18s. I wish I could tell you I could feel a difference... couldn't. As far as the unsprung or rotating weight, if you were pedaling, I'd worry about it. I haven't noticed any effect on acceleration, braking, gas mileage. As I mentioned in the other thread - if the steel wheels were such a penalty for all those factors, I'm guessing FedEx, UPS, etc. would be sporting light alloy wheels on their trucks. They're kinda into that efficiency thing. I gave up the hypermiling thing when I added sliders, a winch bumper, a winch, 33s, 2.5" of lift... hell, I gave that up buying a 5,600 V8 Land Cruiser ;)

Now the point @Kofoed brought up - one's ability to lift, mount, store the wheel/tire - that's worth thinking about. If you struggle with the lighter wheels or tires, ya may not want to add more weight. As Kofoed said, it'd sure suck to have that be what leaves you stranded.
