Remember when I talked about the disease that creeps up on us that turns our vehicles into never ending projects even though just last week you said it was done even though you are completely lying to yourself because you are addicted to tinkering and buying s*** for your cruiser - dammit - I should have just gone with strippers and heroin. At least that would have been somewhat manageable. Why? Because in the cruiser world; must upgrade and always tinker addiction I have just done the equivalent of an overdose but not quite the golden shot. Im still alive and for some strange reason my wife has not attempted to kill me yet or at least not that I know of. Maybe Im just a really tough bastard. Like Hercules tough, that even a wife can't kill. Or maybe she just does not approve of me being on hookers and heroin. I don't know. So what have I been up to you ask? Long story short. Here is a sneak peak. And for a little while you will get nothing else :flipoff2:

Well that escalated quickly!

That is all that is left? you shipped the rest off?

So I am a happy man today because I can go back to being an a$$hole on the streets again. The cruiser was a slow vehicle. It had issues keeping up with vehicles that speed up in front it. You know the feeling. But no more. The little cruiser got a few upgrades as well as a psi bump. The turbo whines and whines and whines. Its the only kind of whining I encourage. Any other whining gets slapped. Then there is the WOOOOOOSH! That ever so glorious sound of air being sucked into the engine. Oh and I no longer need to stare at the EGT gauge. I hate that fun killer of a gauge.

Rob at Odd Iron Offroad has a good mantra. He says every diesel needs a turbo and every turbo needs an intercooler. He fabled up a nice piece of kit including an external reservoir for additional coolant capacity. All aluminum, beautiful fab work. He also added a new custom aluminum radiator as well as a trans cooler.

I finally know what it feels like to go 90 on the interstate in the cruiser and have plenty of juice left under my foot for being an a$$. It feels like a whole new vehicle. Before when I approached long hills, one eye would be glued to the egt gauge and eventually I would have to let off the throttle and be relegated to the right lane. Thats all history. Even driving like a complete douchy a$$ the temps never went above 900 farenheit. I am completely and totally satisfied. Rob is a true master at what he does!!!!! If you have a diesel Toyota and you are anywhere in the Southeast, definitely give Odd Iron Offroad a call. You will not regret it.

So now I am one step closer to never completing this thing :hillbilly:

I've got the same intercooler, it's been sitting in my garage for at least two years now. I need to get that installed...

And I was drooling over the troopy which I assume is yours? :D
Yep, that’s mine. The plan is to get the turbo/intercooler installed before the 70 series meet and greet. Not sure if he will have the time to get it done before then.

Your intercooler setup is pretty awesome on that 80. I didn’t get to hang around for the test drive but I hear it was a night and day difference. I think it has motivated me to let rob put one of my 1HDFT’s in my 80 series.

Drove a HDJ80 with an auto this past weekend what a nice drivetrain. Im becoming more of Toyota diesels ever day.

On a separate note - I just sent an 1FZJ air cleaner lid to a guy in Texas who claims the factory 1HDT lid is restrictive and robs flow/power??
