quick question about your process when painting your truck. you sanded the primer, but did you do any sanding after the color coat or the clear coat. about to repaint my hood the same way and was trying to get all my ducks in a row. thanks.
Sanded first to 400 for the primer to adhere. Spray first coat primer then 800 grit. 3 coats of primer. Then 4 coats of color with 800 grit wet sanding between each. This may be overkill. I have no idea. By this time I had blisters from sanding. I was so sick of it. I dreamt of sanding. Had crappy sleep. Then I added 3 coats of clear. Guess what happens next? Yes sanding but this time in ever finer grits. I went from 800 to 4000 followed by polishing compound. No fun but it worked 😁👍

Awesome!!! Exactly the info I was after. Many thanks.

For some reason I really like the look of the wheels you bought your cruiser with - do you have any info on them? Or do you still have them by chance?
Thanks man! Yup I still have them. Not going to get rid of them any time soon. They are from a company called Level 8 and that series is the Bully Pro. There was one other from the bully pro series I was considering with round holes but I opted for this "wagon wheel
" look because I can see the brake rotors and pads very easily. It was just more practical. Plus the ring around the wheel is interchangeable in case you scuff them up on a rock.

Yeah those are sick, I meant the silver ones from all the pics on page one of the thread though.

Oh the Japanese ones. I don't have them anymore but I did get quite a bit of info on them. Let me dig that up and get back to you.

This thread makes me want to ship my ride to Odd Iron, any updates on the build?
Rob at Odd Iron Offroad is a legend!! Everything he did is holding up very well. His waiting list has grown quite substantially so I am glad I had it all done.

Ive been busy doing so much on the vehicle. Quite a few things have changed. Optically as well as mechanically. Since the last update I have taken 2 more trips out to the west coast. I have received 4 more speeding tickets. I truly love this rig for where it has taken me and what it has been able to do. These 80 series are truly astonishing!!

I will post up photos shortly of the updates and the travels. But first I have to get the vehicle ready for another West Coast trip. This time it will be Anza Borrego, Coyote Flats, Inyo national Forrest and I'll wing the rest of the tour.

Here is a teaser. A functional 79 series hood scoop:

See an improvement in your EGTs with the hood scoop?

I'm guessing there's a top mount intercooler between that scoop and the engine, and I'm guessing the answer to your question is a big YES.

I definitely want to see some more pics and details of that scoop, looks great!!!

I’ll be honest and say that I got that scoop for looks. I really like the way the 79 series looked. When it arrived, I thought what’s the harm in cutting the hood and making it all functional. I do have a top mount intercooler so that dropped the EGTs drastically . The scoop did add a few degrees in the EGTs. (please disregard the previous sentence as I was drunk) The main benefit of the scoop is a huge drop in under hood temps as well as a drop in pressure differential. When driving 80mph I notice the hood does not have any movement and when an oncoming tractor trailer passes it does not jolt the hood. The additional pressure has a place to go. And finally after I park, temps cool down faster

Gotcha, I knew you had a top mount so was wondering if the scoop helped lower EGTs. Even if it didnt, seems like it still did a lot of good.

Adding the scoop ADDED to the EGT's?
