Nice to see that you are home with your family safe and sound.....6000+ miles and some great pictures and narrations...I enjoyed it thoroughly...thanks again for making an effort and letting us come with you on this epic journey.

These Land cruisers are great I have the experience of driving and riding multiple TLCs the 60 series,70 series, 80 series, and I own a 40 series, and if you take decent care of them, these vehicles never disappoint and never leave you stranded, just like your 40, it had a few niggles but it brought you home, safe and sound.

Cheers

I really wished I would have caught this thread as it was happening, but came across it this morning and enjoyed a couple cups of coffee while reading the tales of what sounds like an epic journey.

If I would have caught it sooner, I would have been happy to buy you a beer when you came through Olympia on your way out to the coast. I also think we might have been in Yellowstone at roughly the same time, we spent 5 full days in the park in June.

Man-o-man, what a thread! I love the way you wrapped this up with highlight photos and a summary.

You know that catalog of "must-read" threads that you put together awhile back? This one needs to be added to the list man. Easily now in my top-10 MUD threads list.

Thanks for sharing all of this with us.

Glad you made it back home safely, Hector!!

The three of you look especially happy to be together again!!

This is/was an awesome thread... The fact that you shared the trip, in stages, with your loved ones... And shared it, with all of us, made it even more special!!

Thanks for sharing!!

Just yesterday I went across Hannah covered bridge (twice) when going out to my in-laws place. That reminded me of my promise to get pics of the covered bridges in my area. Hopefully I can get that process started Saturday afternoon. It definitely won't feature my 40 as it isn't driveable. Most likely my wife's Buick will be somewhere in the background (cheapest vehicle to drive we currently have, AC also, I know that I'm showing my pansy side).

Here's a link to the Covered Bridge Society of Oregon's web site: Covered Bridge of Oregon Going to that link will give you a quick description of covered bridges in Oregon.

I will again have to say that I really enjoyed and appreciated your travel thread.

Thank you for the story and pictures!!

What was your favorite state?

Does your trip make you want to move anywhere in particular?

Favorite State? Iowa... because it was so surprising! Nice, clean, and some of the small towns (Pella!) were just stunning.

But if I take the surprise factor out, then I would say Idaho... Mountains, lakes, rivers, wildlife... wide open spaces... combined with nice and unassuming people. I would move to Idaho, yes I would.

The Top 10 Thread! Yes! I remember that one! ;) Well, I'm glad that you think it deserves to be there... but that list was intended to be more about builds... and I don't think mine qualifies in that sense.

But if it makes it into yours and others' Top 10 fun reads... then that's good enough for me!

Never knew there were so many in OR! You have to get your 40 into some of them at some point.

Your map picture caused me to do a google search into "covered bridges in MA"... and would you believe it... we have about a dozen here! Weekend trips with pictures to boot coming up!

And to @1911, @Irish11 , @tstepp920 , @Bluegrass40 , @hsumbal , @CruiserRad , @SMG , @4mydogs , @desert land , and @pngunme, thank you so much for the kind words...

This was, once again, an amazing experience for my family and I, and I was more than glad to share, that which I was able to, with all of you.

It has definitely got me thinking into maybe a 2-week trip next year... planning on Eastern Canada (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland) at this point. What's there? Highest tides in the world, whales, icebergs, amazing coastal scenery... should be fantastic. If I do (I probably will :)), I'll just tack it unto the end of this thread. After this most recent trip, two weeks should feel like a piece of cake!!!

Below are five more pictures from this trip, that somehow I did not get to include in the initial posts... enjoy!

Pacific Coast, near Westport WA

Beginning our ride South from Jasper British Columbia, into Jasper National Park, ending the day in Lake Louise... the most amazing drive of my life...

Just about at the top of Beartooth Highway in Wyoming... 11,000 feet!

At the Crow Indian Reservation... just because the picture came out looking kind weird / cool!

Badlands National Park in South Dakota... that whole drive through it, at sunset, was eerie, and spectacular!

Anyway, thanks truly for roaming about! :D Out for now... Hector

Thanks, Hector! It was quite a ride. Thanks for keeping an open seat for the cruiser heads!

Spent the first 26 years of my life there (Boise,ID), and I miss it very much. I will move back one day!

What if---there was an FJ40 cross-country expedition--one that ran from North to South, East to West and diagonally across this great country--it may not need a constant bunch touring the whole Continent, but maybe a relay of sorts-a group of Oregon 40s meeting up with Idaho-Montana, and so on. The latter areas dropping off as the new areas join.--the only rule is you HAVE to post pics to MUD-it would take a lot of coordination-just a random thought--

I think that's an outstanding idea!!!

How to do it? Probably several ways...some legs in groups, others individually, 1 or 2 or 3 legs potentially going on at the same time... Passing the Baton so to speak.

@sggoat is in FL, I'm in Boston, @ginmtb is in Southern CA (just because you liked the post! :)... sorry @Honger you're out of luck!:hillbilly:). Let's suppose each one of us is willing to travel up to 200 miles to "pass the baton" to someone else... with just the three of us, this is how the map would look.

It would take a while to coordinate... maybe up to a year to kick-off the first leg, but I think it's doable. I could keep "the map" updated, and once a leg is "connected" (coast to coast in any direction or North/South...I would include MEX and CAN too), we could get it going! I think we would need 10-20 40's per leg, depending on direction. Everyone driving from a couple hundred to a few hundred miles each...

To make it more manageable, those participating in the leg could coordinate between themselves. It could be an "ever green" thread, with different legs kicking off from time to time... in '17, '18 and beyond... photos, as you (@sggoat) suggest would of course be mandatory to prove it's happening! ;)

I would say the leg wouldn't have to be finished at once... someone could "get the baton" and wait for a few days/weeks before passing it to someone else??? This would make it much easier to coordinate...

Let's just see if anyone else likes the idea first... I could get a separate thread started if enough people like / sign up on the idea...

what if there actually was a "baton" or several "batons" working simultaneously, with pictures and hand offs as they zig zagged around north america?
and the batons could be silly or cheesy little trinkets from their original port of departure.

either way.

I'm up for the North GA section!....So is my ride. :)

Ya, working today....joys of owning your own business. But I was playing with the kiddos yesterday afternoon. Also, I've got to make hay while the sun shines! Blessed with work and I won't complain, just a get'er done type attitude.

This idea is epic on so many levels... and as you point out I am out of luck. For now at least.
Once this has done the rounds in the USA I think the baton will need to start visiting other countries.

I agree with the idea the baton needs to be some sort of real physical object... a totem of sorts that signifies what we are all about as Cruiserheads.

Anyway, I'm gonna follow this idea from thousands of miles away and participate vicariously through MUD.

So the "batons" would be ???
I'm checking with all the Fl. folks I know to see if there is more interest(we're not that far out of the main routes, even if we are a pennisular State, plus there are some really nice State Parks(Ocala Nat Forest--Richloam--)
