The 7.50-16 would make a lot of sense in that case, I agree. There’s a bunch of options in that size: Deestone, Power King, STA, Interco.
STA is $$$ though compaired to the power kings. anyways one day Ill make the switch. I do like my kenda kevlars though.

Yeah the STAs are pricey for sure. My 40 won’t see enough action to justify them, and it was hard to justify any $300 tire since a set would cost more than I paid for the whole truck 😉

When the KO2s on my daily 60 are done, I want the Klever RT in 33x9.5x15. Skinniest tire on the US market for 15 wheels. Pretty good looking tread too. Seems like a nice balance of road manners, low noise, and traction for dry Colorado wheeling. Everyone who bought them seems to love them.

Save them all.
Agree with that.
I am trying to talk the owner of this to let me do the same thing.

Keep leaving notes and knocking on the door. It'll happen for you. Heck, you could buy him a shelving unit and some organizer bins as part of the deal - it would serve the same function as the 40 currently serves.

Looks like a firefighter

I’m still learning the intricacies of 40s and how they changed each year. My question is this: for 1969 we’re there side reflectors on the rear, and we’re they orange or red?

Can’t find a definitive silver bullet on the rear side reflectors for 1969 though.
Red in the back and orange in the front.

Good luck with your '69, mine was is such rough shape after storing it for thirty years I decided to install most all the running gear from a 60 into it rather than try and source and restore the older hard to find parts.....course it's still in process. 🤔

Thanks for that.

Your Mud name makes a lot of sense “60 40”

True.

I also have everything left over from my '69 that was displaced by the 60 stuff including the axels, F motor, tranny/transfer case exhaust manifold and lots of other linkage and wherever whatnot in various states that I will be liquidating if your needing any of that but shipping to you for any of the heavy stuff may not be economical.

That’s good to know. I’m definitely in the market for the exhaust manifold to match my intake with the larger runners (69-only manifold setup for 2bbl carbs). I wanna pitch this rusty header and go back to stock. I also need the stock throttle linkage. Somebody had a Rochester or something on here and I have a stock Aisin going back on. The entire linkage is gone. Coolant overflow bottle and bracket are give as well. I’m sure there are other bits and bobs missing that I haven’t noticed yet too. Let’s take it to PM and hash it out when you’re ready.

Made a pilgrimage to Classic Cruisers this weekend and scored a bunch of parts for the 40:

-Capri blue passenger door (to replace the dune beige doors, still on the hunt for a good driver’s door)

-the correct air cleaner for the late 69 carb I have

-69-only manifold set that I can snag the exhaust from

-transfer case lever to replace mine that looks like the knob melted

-glass fuel filter housing (mine was missing)

I now have all the parts and pieces to get the motor running. The machine shop that has my 2F block for the 60 called and it’s ready, so I’ll be pushing on that front for a while and not doing much on the 40.

69 has throttle cable, no linkage. And there was no overflow bottle on a 69.

Let me know if you need pics of anything. My 69 is a slightly less crusty twin to yours and I'm trying to keep it mostly stock.

Thanks for clarifying. 40s are still new to me and all the changes every year aren’t lodged in my head yet.

I definitely do not have anything related to a throttle cable. I assume there are maybe some pulleys or guides that I need. Any photos of that stuff would be helpful.

Would it be wise to add the coolant overflow bottle? I could get one and a bracket off a different 40. I’m not going for concourse-level correctness for 1969, and I’m not afraid of some sneaky modifications that keep the spirit of originality.

Hope everything’s going well for you by the way. I was following the Stout thread on the Rising Sun forum. Can’t wait to see that thing one day.

Photos of acquired junk…

I think this air cleaner base and bracket are correct for 69, but I think the lid is earlier. I was looking through a pallet of them at Classic Cruisers and I think 69 had two ports on the lid, one of them possibly being for an air pump. I don’t have one and the holes in the head are plugged, and I won’t be running that anyway … so I picked up the lid with one air port. The top fits over the carb with the right amount of room for the gasket and the pinch strap thing was on it too.

Cool pinstriping on the door, and I don’t mind that it doesn’t match.

This is what I did for an overflow bottle:

ToyotaMatt sells them as a kit with the bracket and hoses in VintageTecParts.

The throttle cable to carb requires a bracket and the correct connector on the primary to accept the barrel ended cable. Not my pics but looks like this:

There should be a spot on the firewall behind the pedal where the cable passes through and a place on the pedal for the other end of the cable to attach. Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters has the correct cable.

She’s a beaut..🤩

These blue trucks fade to perfection, like your favorite pair of jeans. GLWYB.

🍿
@Chungas Revenge The build thread title for my 861 Light Blue Metallic FJ60 references fading like a pair of jeans. It's very true. I didn't choose blue trucks on purpose, they chose me.

@MDH33 I see how the linkage works now. I'll have to buy the cable and then maybe find or make a fitting to make it work. Thanks for the photos. I couple questions for you, since I'm a newbie:

1. I've heard about a plastic fan conversion. Is that a 60 fan that directly bolts to the water pump with the spacer? I don't see a fan clutch, and there wouldn't have been one with the metal fan.

2. The valve cover painted black with that patina is perfect. Is the lower part of your air cleaner red with rust? Looks great haha.

3. I was told 69s had no fan shroud. Did you make that one or steal it off another vehicle? Drilled holes in the radiator support?

4. What's the disconnected hose by the front engine hook?

5. Did you have to get an aftermarket radiator with a fitting for the overflow tank on the filler neck?

6. What's the skinny hose running under the overflow tank and under the lower radiator hose?

7. The single hose coming off the air cleaner top (right where it fits over the carb), where does that go? Valve cover breather?

8. When you have some free time, can you take a photo of the carb spacer/insulator on top of the manifold? I believe those are different for the mid-69 2bbl carb and the late 69 through 71 2bbl carb. I think Redline in Colorado Springs makes the mid-year spacer, so I'll need to poke around and find the later spacer. I don't even know what I'm looking for though.

No rush on any of that of course. Just putting it all out there for when you have time, or if others chime in. I've tried searching for the answers to a lot of these questions, but can't find anything definitive. I was even inspecting 68, 69, and 70 trucks at Classic Cruisers and making mental notes of the change so I know what I need to do and what not to do, but there's so much minutia it's hard getting it all straight.

City Racer sells the plastic fan. You can re-use the spacer from your metal fan

2. The valve cover painted black with that patina is perfect. Is the lower part of your air cleaner red with rust? Looks great haha.

Yes, rusty lower and where the sticker wore off the top :) rusty head too. It didn't get painted when a po did a head job I guess.

3. I was told 69s had no fan shroud. Did you make that one or steal it off another vehicle? Drilled holes in the radiator support?

I believe mine is original. I removed the leaking original radiator and replaced with a new Toyota unit.

4. What's the disconnected hose by the front engine hook?

I took that pic while replacing the waterpump, thermostat housing, hoses and radiator. That hose is the heater line that connects to lower radiator hose. Wasn't hooked up yet.

5. Did you have to get an aftermarket radiator with a fitting for the overflow tank on the filler neck?

Yes, see answer 3 above

6. What's the skinny hose running under the overflow tank and under the lower radiator hose?

That's the overflow hose from the bottle

7. The single hose coming off the air cleaner top (right where it fits over the carb), where does that go? Valve cover breather?

Yep

Yeah, I'll get more pics for you and post up later.

Looking forward to following your progress!
