Oh, I see, you had 1 more disassembly step, the keyed core comes out of that housing with the springs popping out the top, you took the spring cover off.
Yes, the springs immediately flew everywhere when I pulled the core out initially. Didn't see anything like a spring cover. Tape would do the trick but the core is a super tight fit, so that probably wouldn't work.
 
Thats the housing, the core is the part the key goes in, it comes out as well. IIRC Toyota had used a small tin strip staked in place or just staked the top of hole to retain spring.
Sounds pretty easy to make.

The core on this one really does just fall out once the set screw is removed. Doesn't matter which way the key is turned or anything else, there's nothing holding the core in place except that little screw.
