Soil at camp can and will be muddy. Even if it’s not muddy, there is a lot of soil and it is mostly soft. Tent stakes will sink in very well.

Just saw a post saying that Engineer pass is now open.

HIH 9 officially in motion, we will catch up next Tuesday, thanks a bunch @Riverrunner . I hate it when my truck gets to leave before me!

I totally understand this may be a dumb question, but that’s kind of what I am know for so..... Is the water from the river next to camp safe to use to wash with? I understand there is a good deal of runoff from mines, but I am not sure how that effects the water as far as using for showers or doing light dish duty. I’m going to be bringing a little shower set up and I am not sure where we can get water to use it. Just looking for water to wash with, not potable water.

I wouldn’t.

Isn't there a potable water spigot right out front? I was drinking that last year and I'm still alive. Was banking on that being available again.

I had no idea this was a thing! So much for me being an #hih9insider ! Good to know it’s there though! Thanks!

Yeeeeah, don’t do that. Just bring a jug and get potable water in camp.

I will be driving down to Silverton from Denver early Wednesday the 24th. Probably stop in Gunnison for a bite to eat.
Doing the same. Meeting at Phillips 66 by Bandimere Speedway (Morrisn Rd and 470) in Denver at 8:30a on Wednesday, July 24 then heading to Gunnison for lunch, and if it's open Cinnamon Pass into Silverton.

Cinnamon is now open. The only 2 routes not open at this point are Poughkeepsie and the short section of CR2 from Animas Forks to the Placer/Picayne cutoff (doubtful either will be open). If you go over either Cinnamon or Engineer to Animas Forks, you'll need to continue west over California and Hurricane and drop into Silverton on 10/110.

I'm crossing over Cinnamon/Cali/Hurricane on Tuesday 7/23 towing my small trailer. Will provide a report back for those rolling in on that route on Wednesday.

I haven't gotten any reports on my backcountry gravel route yet (crossing Los Pinos Pass to Slumgullion and into Lake City). But, all indications are that it is clear and graded.

thanks for the intel Gary! And that is key for all the Denver guys planning to run down through Lake City then over Cinnamon... you can't turn left at Animas Forks and go down to Silverton that way. So yes, back up the hill in front of you then over California is the only way out, that is crazy I can't wait to see all the snow!

Million dollar highway for this guy... :)

Woke up early (0430) with heart burn from last night's whiskey and tacos so I decided to change the t-stat on the cruiser this morning as part of my prep for HIH. Going to start organizing the gear and getting loaded out. Can't wait to see y'all next week!

I am probably down for this too

Everyone!! Please pack patience and a smile with you this year. Trails are going to be interesting, to say the least. We are doing our best to use all the intel available to keep everyone happy and having a great experience. I just can’t wait to breathe nice clean, cool mountain air. But hey, I’m a simple dude. Haha
