Yeah, the $2k seems off the wall. I might be forgetting an item or two they billed me for. But I think I’ll grab a service manual and float a post for the next one.

When you get a list of stuff, post it up we can help you. We use helping people like you to distract us from the work our own trucks need

This man speaks the truth.

They charged you almost 2k for brakes, an alignment and a valve cover gasket??

Host a HAMOM and have some people in this club with knowledge look it over to find out what is wrong and fix the easy things that day. You can learn to replace all seals and gaskets yourself and this club can teach you.
This!

I can't stress enough how valuable learning to work on your own truck is. In 1 year, when the brakes are squealing what would you do? A) go back to Fred Anderson or B) jack up the truck, pull off the wheels, inspect the brakes, realize its nothing, and lower it back down. I heard an 80 series front axle job was a lot of work. I learned how to tear apart a knuckle on @fourtrax Cruiser. He needed to replace his axle seals. When it came time to do my axles for a regear, I tore into them without hesitation.

I’ll do as much as I can, unfortunately my driveway is gravel and I have no safe points for jacking up a vehicle. I’ve had other cars shift on me before so I really don’t want to try lifting the Cruiser on gravel.

A hamon doesn't have to be at your house. 😁. remember everybody in this club likes to turn a wrench doesn't matter where. just post up and ask will help you come up with a plan almost as fast as will enable you to spend your money.

You can solve this problem for about $30. Get a sheet of marine grade 3/4" (or thicker) plywood and cut it up into pieces. Use a bigger piece (4'x4') to go under your floor jack and a 2'x2' piece under each jack stand. As long as your driveway is somewhat level, this is a safe enough way to go about it IMO.

Hmm, I like these ideas. I’ll be picking up the truck today so after I see what’s left that should help me plan which option would be better.

This club has a wealth of knowledge and is willing to help peeple with their cruisers. Just bribe them with food and beer and you will have a small army to help you. Good luck! 🍺:hillbilly:
To clarify, good beer and crap pizza.

Indeed go for the little caesars and some foothills brewing instead of coors and Pillaggios

They delayed the repair since they shipped the wrong seals, but I asked for a clarification on what they’re repairing.

“Brake flush, Valve cover gaskets, front transfer case seal 4x4 service and all the belts . They sent the wrong seal's”

So that’s where my $2k is going.

HF that is not a lot for a lot of $$$. Maybe they are pulling the transfer case but I’m guessing it’s just a fluid change and front output seal.

You could literally get that done for maybe 200 in parts / fluid and a couple hours work.

Only brake fluid?

Why not just pay for the parts they ordered and get your truck home?

I say all the above in the most helpful and non condescending tone...as the internet can sometimes misrepresent tone.

are you able to cancel it since they haven't done it yet?

Can I cancel work? I don’t think they’ve done much yet, I can ask.

Edit: looks like most of the work is done and the truck is apart waiting on seals. I’ll have to eat this cost and chalk it up to inexperience.

Feels bad to be taken on such a ride for minor work.

Just the way retail repair works...get quoted and pay the 'book' rate. To some it's more then worth it...I mean hell, I paid $158 for an oil change on my Audi S3 at the dealer a couple weeks ago AND I even have a lift at home. Was just convenient and I could work my day job while they were doing it.

I was afraid of that

Well, a club membership is good to have, too!

Post the S3 up in the other cars thread!
