That is a thing of beauty, Kevin! I love all the feet to spread out the weight of the tent more evenly. How close to the roof is it at the peak of the roof line? Does it still fit under your 8' door with the tent on?

Well done, can't wait to see it in person at Moab.

Thanks!

It's close, maybe 3/8". But it doesn't sag when I stand on it in th center. I could shim it up a bit if I had to. My only concern would be ice build up. I'll have to keep an eye on it.

Tent mouting is today so we'll see but I think I'm an inch too tall.

You bet, see you there.

wind noise?\
how much for one without the upright sides?

Can't hear it with the window down. I told Craig at the meeting if he was concerned he should climb on top and we'd go for a rip down Deerfoot. He declined lol

Not really looking to make more right now but I did buy the tool to bend the tube.

So after two marathon days at the shop until midnight I have drawers. After about thirteen hours of Solidworks and CNC programming I started cutting metal at 4:30pm yesterday and drove home at 11:30 with drawers installed.

I call them hover drawers. They sit 2-3/16" off the floor to provide space for stuff like axe, dog roasting sticks or a camp table/chair. They are mounted to the roll bar anchor pads and do not touch the floor or wheel wells. The compartment at the back of the short drawer is for my house battery and related 12V gear. The right drawer is narrower so it will open with the left amby door closed. No pull or latch yet. Maybe today.

Those drawers are awesome! You can tell there was a lot of thought put into the design, very nice work! Any idea what they weigh? I'm betting substantially lighter than wood.

Can you post a shot of the mounting?

As soon as the second part of the two piece mount is on I will. Or I can show you in Moab, if yer around.

Ok, tent is mounted. House battery system components are on the workbench. Just need some wire and lugs.

New issue. My weeping brake booster/master is now a leaking booster/master. Can I swap the one from my 1978 FJ45 into my 1981 BJ42??? I found drops on the driveway this morning but had to head to work before I had a chance to glance at the 45's booster. Was wondering if any of you might know compatability issues with the two booster apps.

I know a 60 series will work on the '81 but I don't think your '78 will due to the two reservoirs. Others will know for certain. Toyota just ceased production of the brake master but I just purchased the PBR one. Nice build quality, looks nearly identical to factory except you'll need to use your cap if you want the brake fluid indicator to work.

Look on line. I got it delivered in three days from their US distributor for under $100 total to the door.

4wheelauto lists them and if they have one I can get it tomorrow. Pretty sure the master won't swap but the booster might if required.

ordered the master

I will check the 45's booster (which is in a cupboard because the 45 has hydro-boost) and see if it will accept the 42 style master. If so I will mount the new master and the 45's booster in the 42. If not I will just mount the new master and hope the booster was not the problem.

My reasoning for suspecting the booster is that the brakes have never felt like the booster was doing anything at all. They feel like manual brakes if that makes any sense. I suppose I should check the vacuum pump to see if its vacuum-ing

Vacuum canister? I know a bloke who makes really nice stainless ones.. ..oh wait, you know him too.

You got a PBR master? Curious to hear whether you like it too.

Is PBR Aisin? Cuz the one they're sending is Aisin, or rather Aisin's brake section that now has a different name. Apparently the hydraulic brake components were split off into a different company that has a new name.

yeah, the new company is still Toyota owned, just a new but similar name. Still "Aisin" in effect. And only the hydraulic components. Electrical components are still manufactured under the Aisin name.

And don't believe everything you read on the internet.... I heard this third hand so I could just be spreading rumours..

Ummm.... not sure what I was smoking yesterday but obviously the fluid leak was from the master because the booster has no fluid. I belive I was combining two issues in my mind and mixing them up. The master was leaking from the rear seal. I also think the booster diaphram may be leaking and these two issues were clouding my thinking when I posted above in #873.

Anyway... I slapped the booster on last night and began the bleed process but ran into troubles. I don't recall ever doing a master before so I was making some assumptions. I filled the reservoir and had my daughter pump and hold while I bled the rear port by holding a thumb over the port and a coupla rags to reduce the spray. The rear port was pretty quick to get rid of bubbles and I installed the hard line. Moving to the front port, the first pump yeilded a slightly more violent blast of aerated fluid and then nothing. Dry. So naturally I went for a drive to play with locking up the rears.

Why is there no fluid even leaking through the front port. Reservoir is full. I have some suggestions from the local crew, the best of which is to run surplus hard line stubs from both ports to the reservoir and pump to bleed the air. Essentially bench bleeding. Am I fighting a check valve or something? I should at least have fluid dripping out the front port, no?

I have the rear line on so is that preventing the front from getting fluid? If I relieve the pressure in the rear line by running it back into the res. will that allow the front to work properly.

I know what to do once the master is bled.... just gotta get there.

can you try purging the lines with an air compressor to make sure there is nothing plugging them?

Last minute wrenching before your big trip eh? Dont forget to re-torque your knuckle arm studs and your caliper bolts eh. ;p

If you're trying to bleed the master cylinder, take off both lines (front and rear on the master), hold your thumbs on both holes and pump it until fluid come through both. Hold your thumbs on there really hard. You have to do this at the same time to get it to work. Good luck!
