I made a few in a first attempt 6 or 7 years ago but they weren't pretty. Functional, but twisted because of the rib tool I was using. I haven't tried since then.

Looking back at the difference between what you made a few years ago and now with the beds, I'm guessing you could make some seriously original-looking wheel wells.

Very nice welding and your and others pictures are inspiring to get the welding machine hooked up!
I did to much cleangrinding for spots that are now under the carpet, and in the beginning was also using to little pressure on the grinder. So it took me long time for things nobody will ever see  :meh:

Also did all the work with a 500W lamp behind it just to make sure it is watertight/ if I saw a hole I took the welder (again) grind (again).
But now when I drive trough snow (with salt :bang:) and a lot of water I am still happy I know the welds are water tight.

RTT arrived :bounce:

Alberta sure has gotten strick with the OOP inspections, RTT part of the requirements?
congrats.
how heavy is it?

I know right!? Its gotten waaay outa hand. Now THEY want me to put in a lift and new 33" rubber too!

Pretty soon they may require a frame-off, turbo, winch and lockers....you better hurry up and get 'er registered before they get really strict.

The box says 65Kg but it doesn't feel like 140lbs. Just big and cumbersome to move around until its mounted. Now I gotta add drip rail riser clamps to my design repertoire. If I can keep it under 8' it will still fit in the garage.

I dunno if I'm going to make a full roof rack or not but I'll likely make a few sketches and see where it goes. More important is I have tires and 2.5" OME on the way so I may as well put that on over the xmas break and shoot for OOP sometime in January. Then I can outfit the rest of the goodies. Gotta mount one of my 8274's and alter the bumper. I want to make a copy of the old brush guards that somebody used to make. Limb risers, which would give another reason for the rack. I've got storage drawer ideas too....spring will be here sooner than later...

Winch, yes. Locker... I'm thinking of a detroit. Turbo, not until I'm tired of going slow. Even then (as rediculous as it sounds) I want to keep it stock. A detroit is unobtrusive and everything else I'm doing is bolt on.

The Detroit locker is an auto locker, correct? Personally I wouldn't want to go that way with the short wheelbase if you plan to use 2WD on road in the winter. i've got an Aussie in the back of my 62 and it has caught me off guard a few times on long trips in the winter when traction deteriorated without me expecting it.

i have driven auto locks, welded rear diffs in Calgary for decades.
yes, the ass can come around on you on slippery surfaces in 2wd.
yes, the ass end will want to slide down hill when wheeling in snow or ice.
but
if the road is that slippery then i run in 2wd with the front hubs locked from Oct (first snow) till end of Feb (when ever the road is dry again in the spring), shift on the fly takes a second. you do need to pay attention to the road conditions but you should be doing that anyway.
also, snow, ice, loose gravel, grass, even wet pavement and you can drive in 4high with no issues.

it can be done safely but it does take attention.

An auto locker and the slippery-on-ice KM2's will be fun!

I haven't ordered a locker yet. I just want something self contained without requiring air or elec. so theres no mods required. I will go open for a while first so you guys can pull me out :D

Have you ever driven a Detroit on ice? Holy crap, give me selectable any day.

Yes, PLEASE build a roof rack! I want an aluminum one and I would love to buy one from you. I got a roof top tent and will need a rack. I have a bloke here who may do it but if you made one and would only have to duplicate it, then perhaps I could talk you into it.... Wow!

I've got three FJ60 full floaters sitting in Santa Fe.... You could swap in wider axles....

Indeed...

Was one of them LSD too?

Was....Hmmm. Was. Perhaps. Of course, last I saw them was at your shop... So perhaps. :-)
