You know I was going to give the driver the benefit of the doubt, but then I started thinking and it was a single guy not a large company he could just as easily cancel his insurance and never talk to me again, so I just filed the claim with his insurance company and he can work it out with them. Thanks for the suggestion.

I deal with a lot of different auto transporters and unfortunately this is a more common sight than you would like to think. I saw you posted that they don't want to go through insurance...make them go through it. Insurance companies are a PIA to deal with, but trying to deal with the supervisor of a trucking company is even worse. Good luck.

That’s awful. I transported my first 80 from Cali and it went well. It never crossed my mind that it would go bad. Ugh.

I used an app called U-Ship. I’ve contemplated shipping my vehicle again to places if I wanted to get work done. How did you get your guy? If you used U-Ship then I’m not doing that again.

I think for the most part, it's a risk with just about any carrier . With the junk I buy, I wouldn't get too worked up about it. In fact, I might come out a little better. In the case of this vehicle, with brand new top shelf paint work and such, it really sucks.

I suspect the driver is probably a decent dude (as you thought at first), and just screwed up. Unfortunately for him, it still needs to be handled by the book by filing a claim.

The job of hiring the hauling of the trucks was done by the book so fair is fair I'm thinkin'

Haha you can't help but shake your head.

So I was told by the original paint shop that the paint was a PPG Global Single Stage called Tuxedo Black. I have that well documented. I call the paint supplier to verify I could get some more paint for the repair and they say "No sir, PPG Global does not come in a single stage" I say well how about Tuxedo Black. "We do have a Tuxedo Black in PPG but that is Deltron but it is also not single stage"

So at this point I have no idea what the paint color actually is. I have called back to the paint shop, but they are only doing the owners personal cars now days and don't take customer cars so they no longer have the computer system. I am waiting for a call back to see if anyone has any more information.

Do a project car they said. It will be fun they said. Haha.

unbelievable.

I know a PPG paint rep and sent him a text about it to see what he knows. Might get nothing but I'll let you know if I get something.

Awesome thanks! Not sure if it helps him figure out what line it is, but it was about $800 a gallon.

So the guy I know did not think there was a Global single stage. He thought it might be Concept DCC single stage (ppg paint)

Great thanks for asking. I will check into it. I am still hopeful someone from Page Customs will know what it is exactly. I remember going to pick up the paint the manager at the supplier said it was the good stuff and she gave me a discount because she had an old Land Cruiser but unfortunately she is no longer there.

Thanks man, they are taking it to Cdan's body shop.

Sorry to go off track for a second but couldn't help it. Cdan has a body shop? Did he take on a new job/hobby after retirement or is is the body shop he uses for his own land cruisers?

Sorry, this is the body shop that CDan uses. Not his shop. I guess he has known the guy for 40 years.

Man, that sucks. I hope they make it right.

Also, I rent space to a company that does vehicle shipping so they have transporters dropping off and picking up stuff all the time. The other day one showed up and needed to move an Accord off the trailer to load the car he was picking up. I heard this load bang and walked outside to see the Accord high centered on the back of the trailer because he forgot to put down the ramps. He then proceeded to wiggle the car back and forth while trying to slide the ramps out. I'm sure the bottom of that car looks like hell now.

Anyway, all that to say, this stuff happens all the time if that makes you feel better!

Poor LX. :(

I finally made it out to Salt Lake City after a few stops in Teton, etc.

The poor LX is looking like a lame old donkey. Filthy, door left open for a week, dust inside and out. Scratches where the driver rubbed his hands over the filthy paint to check if the door was in the fender and hood.

The body shop sourced a used Land Cruiser door from about 4-4.5 hours away. They are getting started on it, but it looks like the truck might have to go on the frame table to pull on the pillar :bang:

I know the truck is in good hands, but I went to extreme measures to get a clean truck, now I am going to have a tweaked A pillar and water down the LEXUS DNA with a Land Cruiser door! :flipoff2::flipoff2:

Probably a good thing to get a LC door because it won't have all those "extra" holes in it from the LX!

Looks great from this side. I can see that door ajar on the other side though. Hope it goes smooth from here. You're due a bit of good luck.

With all of the F'd up bad luck with broken stuff, are you sure you aren't being haunted by the ghost of a Jeep? Maybe you walked away from a Jeep in your past and it is haunting you after it went to the crusher?

Funny enough I actually won an old Jeep in a radio contest. It was like 1994 and they raffled off a 1978 Jeep. I was only 16 and bought the tickets. My parents picked it up. It was a total basket case! They gave it a new gold paint job and new tires and wheels but I drove it that summer and ran away from it when the weather got colder. Being a short wheelbase CJ5, soft top in winter. I bought a 1995 Toyota extended cab Pickup and never looked back. Lol

What did you ship this out west for?

Because I moved to Salt Lake City. Hopefully I will be able to start making a lot more progress on it.
