I like this idea. I don't care about fire resistant or water resistant. I like the idea of a combination lock more so than a keyed lock. I don't like keys on my key ring. I've never had a second key on my 80 key ring. Thus, no scratches around the ignition. :flipoff2:

And I have an interview tomorrow for a new job. Hopefully it goes well and I can stop panicking about not having a job and start buying some of your stuff. I need the fingernail clippers, the tire gauge, and the fire extinguisher mount. Oh, and don't forget the STICKERS!!!!

I would only keep my carry gun in there when I go to a state where I can't carry. Generally I don't go to those states. If a few seconds makes a difference between me getting to my gun in my truck or not then I am driving where I shouldn't be. :) Translation: When I am in my truck my gun is always on my person or readily available. Never locked up. :)

What about using a combination lock ? I hate keys, they ket lost easy and it is a lot more convenient to just enter the combination and open the lid
The older you get the more you forget things. Then if I write the combo somewhere I will probably forget where I wrote it down.

You're going to make me carry a second key aren't you?!?! :flipoff2:

Is there a price yet? Group buy? What is the hold up?

Price...not yet. I have yet to make the first prototype because I wanted some feedback from you folks before I pulled the trigger on this.

Group Buy? Maybe but haven't decided yet. If it goes to GB status then the thread gets lost into never never land of MUD.

Hold up? Just feedback and making sure there is interest. I may just do the GB thing and that determine how many I make instead of making large qtys and selling 10% of it...whoohoo!!! :( Sad Panda.

I would do a group buy for this type of thing. It seems more niche than some of your other ideas. I'd rather pay an extra $10 or whatever than have you have a bunch made and take it in the a$$ (that's two references in one night). I want you to make money so you can come up with other ideas for things I have gone 23 years without that I can't possibly live without any longer!

Well I just need to start marketing outside of MUD, Instagram and FB. Its all time :P

All of the things I'm working on are because I'm frustrated, not just because I think they are neat.

I'd love to see one of these for the 100 series (with room to lock away a full frame pistol).

This is 80s Tech dammit! :)

So I have access to the LC80, the LX80 and the early 60. Those are the three I'm working on. Which sees the light of day is yet to be seen. If I can get access to a 100 series console for a few days then I can definitely do that up as well. Once I have the dimensions then its just about getting them cut and bent. The overall size doesn't really matter but I will need the size for the final piece.

If you, or I, start a thread and gather interest on the 100 series then I will add it to the list.

not really applicable to me under the stock console as I have installed an aftermarket one but had some other ideas.

- how about something that mounts under the front dash on the drivers side? something that is thin enough to hold a gun and bolts into some existing holes, like right under the stock fuse panel. Would be a cool location for it maybe?

- another idea is a replacement heavy duty stock glove box enclosure. Not sure if this is even possible but I know I have removed the stock glove box enclosure and it is flimsy at best. A plug and play heavy duty glovebox that can go in that space would be a neat addition!

I have no need for this:

if someone wants to steal something from the truck, they will succeed no matter what - I'd rather keep the damage to a minimum than create more roadblocks for them and more damage to the truck

I have a softtop 40 - there is no such thing as security  - really, nothing has ever gone missing in 10 years that I didn't lose myself :meh: (like a gas tank cap )

Oh sure, you start offering this 3 days after I order parts for making my own. Hmmmmph.

For the lock, what about a combination camlock? Doesn't hide as easily, but doesn't need a key either. Or else you could sell it without locking hardware but with the Double-D cutout for a standard camlock and let people source whatever type of lock they want (keyed, buttons, combination).

(For reference, this is the basic idea for what I am doing, not a true box just a locking lid.)
