So does the electric power steering mean you just need “key on” and you can turn the wheel? The A/C looks fantastic

You know that’s a good question.

In my last old man retirement job, our contact/trail vehicles (modified Polaris 6x) all had EPS. EPS was not engaged until the vehicle was started (as I recall). However, I could be remeberizing this totally bass ackwards…🤔

Yes- the steering kicks on as soon as it has ignition power.

So can you manhandle past it like regular power steering should it quit working for what ever reason?
Yeah- it feels exactly like the stock set up when it’s off. It really is a great solution, especially for those that aren’t doing any heavy wheeling. Stand-alone wiring harness, drop in install( mostly) and relatively unobtrusive. The most challenging aspect is getting the split rings off to slide the ignition switch housing off of the original inner shaft, which really isn’t a challenge with a decent set of split rings pliers.

Wow… who knew it was this much of a change…. My biggest issue with my Saginaw steering is that I do not care for the 1 finger ease of which it turns. a little resistance might be more “stabilizing” but that’s not really the right word. Is the electric power steering adjustable in that respect?

This is what sealed the deal on the EPS. 🥳

Gents- Steering wheel refurb completed “in house” at RCLC. Initial test fit in progress. Wheel is obviously not all back together. I guess this is the chapter in the story where I say “Yeah, you were right”… :flipoff2: :p:beer::clap:🙄👈🏻

@Chungas Revenge This really look brand new…even though it was 51 years ago, I remember the feel of a new un-touched steering wheel on my new 1974FJ40. Was my first new vehicle…age 21. Reminds me of another encounter with leather seats in Bob Guccione’s Rolls Royce in 1988…that’s for another forum. 😳

Port and starboard side Vent(s) all buttoned up. EPS rheostat in place.
Ph II A rapidly coming to a close. Plumbing taking place.

Dropped the soft top/frame off yesterday. Prepositioning/Staging for PHII B.

In progress report:

Working through the plumbing. By no means the final assembly or where everything will reside on completion.

I was sans top all last year. Tooling around the “Hood” in the midday heat /humidity was less than stimulating. Hard top is resting comfortbly in dry storage. I find myself thinking about a “Roller” to put it on. Son of Mule?
