This is my 1970 with a 2.5 lift and 33’s. I did use Pro Comp springs which are NLA I believe and Bilstein’s. It has a very nice ride.

That looks pretty sharp! I like the swing out on the rear.

Mine with the HFS lift with BFG 33x10.50x15" mud KM3 tires. Can't remember if it's a 2.5" lift or 4"

I would really like to know which one that is. This is pretty much what I am looking for with the same wheels and tires. If I was a betting man I would say 2.5 but there again, I have lost a lot in Vegas before! 😂

I'm thinking it's probably 2.5". I didn't want it to lose k like a spring over with 33" tires. If I did 4" I would have had to go with at least a 35" tire so it wouldn't look goofy.

But I found my receipt from 2005.....I'm wrong! 4" HFS lift from Cool Cruisers of Texas with 1.5" shackles. It's what they had on their then olive brown fj40 and that's what I went with. 🤔 I'm happy with it.

This is why I don’t bet on things anymore! Thank you for all the info.

Well, it’s been a bit but I have made a few more purchases as of late.

I have been wrenching trying to get the stubborn bumper off to fit my new CCOT bumper and warn 8274 winch. Picked up the bumper from CCOT one day while in Dallas while visiting a customer (work pays for gas). Ended up getting a deal on it due to a small mark on it and was labeled as “blemished”. Of course when I heard the word deal I replied “sold!”. Ended up picking a few other hardware items up as well.

As far as the Warn 8274s go, I picked up one from a good dude in Dallas for a great price (again fuel paid for) so that’s a win. I also picked up one in Louisiana that was for $300 and couldn’t help myself… not sure what I’m doing with it yet but I suspect I’ll put the better one of the two on my 40 for now and rebuild the other and once done swap them and rebuild the other. Who knows, maybe I just need another 40 to put the other 8274 on 😎.

Also, wheels and tires are on! She’s at least looking the part now 🤓

As far as the bolts go for removing the front bumper, they have been the biggest pain in my side. Pb blaster and a torch haven’t done much, I got two off I believe out of the few holding it on. Any suggestions for a quick and easy removal are welcomed but I assume it’s going to possibly come down to a grinder possibly.

I ended up getting some period correct round mirrors BUT with the not so period correct telescoping arms from SOR. I prefer them/mounting to the windshield as I will have the doors off pretty often.

I also picked up the a DUI distributor and live wires to replace the original points one. I’ve heard a lot of good things on them and figured why not.

Also, I just got in my rear taillight mounting brackets and a license plate holder for the CCOT front bumper!

I am patiently awaiting my skyjacker springs (shoutout to Gary there at SJ!) and bilstein 5125s from cityracer.

I was told for a 2.5inch lift that I needed to go with the 4inch springs in the rear and 2.5inch in the front as well as the 2.5-4s for bilstein 5125s vs the 0-2inch. Found this info on mud as well as online.

I decided on this route as I felt it was my best option cost wise for what I wanted on this rig. It will spend a lot of time on our place in central Texas riding around and enjoying the views our place out there offers. The rest of the time it will be a “kid mover” to and from school 2 miles down the road. All that to say, it’s not crucial for me to have the most comfortable or best lift that there is to offer. My desire is to own a later 40 year model 76 and up and make it into something special, maybe a daily driver. If that happens, I would invest in a more comfortable ride I think…

I hope to have the frame taken care of and running solid by March in order to make it out to Lone Star Round Up in Mason, TX. After that we plan to tow it out to Yellowstone and Glacier National behind the RV for our trip out west. I would love to be driving the family around the parks there in the 40 if it’s all done and ready/reliable at that point. 🤞🏻

Making quick work of this!

Are you saying two different lift height springs front & rear is what Skyjacker recommended? I can’t say ive ever of heard or seen that combination utilized.

Yes, that’s what I was told to make it equal out to level. I assume it’s because it will sag some in the back if just 2.5 springs? I talked to Roger there and he explained the 2.5 inch lift from them comes with rear 4inch.

I’ll report back once installed!

Also, quick work on clicking and using that plastic card thingy but not much has changed from my wrenching and elbow grease lol! One issue has been holidays and kiddos keeping me away from the garage but I hope to get things going soon!

Well… any advice on this issue would be welcomed. I might put this in a post somewhere, maybe under 40 tech?

I was looking through my knobs on the dash and noticed my choke was out of sorts. I pulled it out (literally) 😳. Before I go and start removing a bunch of stuff I wanted to ask if anyone has run into this issue with either the choke or any knob and what they did or what should I do?

Forgot… Merry Christmas! I guess my new choke knob and I’m sure a few other parts will be running behind schedule and not under the tree from Santa.

My choke pull is the same way. The PO cut the cable off because it was no longer needed since the V8 was installed. Leaving the knob makes my dash look stock and looks better than a hole. Are you running a non stk carb or something?

There's nothing wrong with skyjackers. They're affordable and offers a nice ride.
I've been running a 4" set for years. Most folks use 2 different spring heights because the frt has had a shackle reversal done.

I do not believe it is the stock carb but looks similar to a stock. I’ll be replacing the carb if it starts having issues. Are you saying to just check on the other side of the firewall where it connected to the the cable?

Yes, I do have aftermarket shackles that are reversal.

I saying in my application the choke cable was cut because it is no longer needed. Idk why yours is like it is. It could have broke or was removed for a reason or not.

Thanks for the info. Once the smoke clears from Christmas Day I will be diving in to get a better diagnosis!

Not sure why you are being recommended different height lift front and back but I am sure that you don't have a shackle reversal.

By what’s pictured I think he means “anti-inversion” shackles.

Yes, I was wrong and meant “anti - inversion”. My apologies for the confusion. I did see that it says for trucks with “front shackle reversal kit installed”.

Should I go ahead and just go down that road or send the rears back for the standard 2.5 rears? I’ve heard good and bad on the front shackle reversal stuff on mud.
