Sounds nice Dan?

Surely that video can't have been its very first start? (Started too easy!)

:clap::clap:

No, that was it's second start. But amazingly, the first start was virtually identical to that one. I was actually expecting that one to be harder, thinking maybe I had drained the fuel filter or something and this time it would actually have to pull fuel from the tank. It starts easier than my 2LT-E that I drive every day.

Jon: I am diesel nutty. The chicks dig it. Other than the old White, I can say that I don't own anything that isn't a Toyota diesel. And I'm affecting other members of the family too (Dad's engine is an example).

So, judging by this (and the -40 manual, which includes the BJ wiring, but not that matches this engine) the four wires to the EDIC are probably GND, ON, START, and OIL???

Does the EDIC use the same oil pressure sender, or is there a separate oil pressure switch to worry about? I'd be tempted to leave that system inoperative (since I don't have a problem watching my needle to protect the engine), but it could be useful as a kill switch or just to make it work like it's "supposed" to.

Dan

I'm not sure you picked up up on this detail or not by this point in your investigation, but the EDIC fuel control relay does not use the oil pressure sender for low pressure cut off. It uses a simple switch with one wire that grounds out when oil pressure drops precipitously. This switch, which looks very similar to the vacuum switch on the vac reservoir, is located in the vicinity of the oil pressure sender, and screws directly into the engine block. The fuel control relay ignores the low pressure switch signal at start up, for 60 seconds or so, and then reads the signal. Otherwise, it would shut the engine down right away as you were starting, since oil pressure is low at first when you start.

Great news! I recently acquired a BJ-42 donor vehicle from British Columbia and must say that the first start up of the 3b was an awesome moment.

Cheers

Dan, I just upgraded the engine in my BJ42 and I have all the EDIC and Super glow electrical parts in my garage and no longer need them, if your car is 12V and you want some parts PM me.

It's currently "processing." Can't see it just yet, but it should be up sometime soon. I don't know what that means, as it's the first video I've ever uploaded, ever.

EDIT--it's up.

Toyota 3B/Safari Turbo test run

Shot in the dark here, having a similar issue now, nearly ten years later, video is no longer up.... Wondering if you ever got the wire colors identified correctly re their roles?

I did. I think it's in the actual build thread.

Very easy though, works great. I've driven it well over a thousand miles in the past week or so.
