We are closing down the B&B from the 3rd to the 8th to hopefully jump in at some point :)

Kelly is open to having folks join in during the trip - we will try to coordinate via this post as best possible.

BTW - Not sure he knows I am doing this LOL :)

Put me down as interested

This is so awesome!! Thanks @weejub for getting the ideas and start for planning. Hoping that we get the truck bed sides on my son's rig by then. @7powernerd speak now of anything you really want to do.

Great loop and lots of opportunities for fun connects. Let me know if i can help. May join in a bit as well.

Good luck with the squirrels

I don't have any great recommendations on scenic roads / ranger trails between Asheville and Blowing Rock. Anything info that is appreciated. I know you have tons of posts about cool stuff you have seen, but having a hard time finding :)

This sounds awesome. I would love to join for part of it but work schedule will be the deciding factor.

There are some great spots for off-road exploring/camping at the north western tip of SC where it meets NC. Jocassee Lake was one of my favorites and there’s some amazing primitive camping nearby that’s pretty isolated. Let me know if you want coordinates and I can send them along.

Wow! This is a great list and we will reference it in the future! Don't see Biltmore House or Sierra Nevada Brewery on it but maybe I missed them.....definitely list worthy but understand you can't do/see everything!

......This trip will have two trucks (80s)......
Any chance one of them will be the 80 Ute? That would get some of us locals to pay closer attention. ;) Maybe get @Fort Knox 's chopped 4Runner to play for a big bro/little bro pic.

What no Sierra Nevada stop off!

Screw all the others. They have to go to that one.

Grove Park Inn. See if they can squeeze in the spa. Sounds gay but it really is an experience they won't forget.

Biltmore? Might take up too much time but is a really cool place to see.

Are they doing any camping or all hotels and B&B's. Also If the timing is right I might be able to get them into my buddies place right down from Brevard off HWY 215 above Rosman for a night or two. Shower is outside and the cabin has a roof but it's fairly private place with 3 streams and backs right up to pisgah. There is a hiking trail into Pisgah as well Courthouse Falls is 5 miles from the cabin.

It backs up to a boys camp which is the only neighbors. They do a lot of singing at night and chant the camp songs in the morning. Otherwise you don't know they are there.

I third a stop at Sierra Nevada. It's worth it. And they might have some live music; I have yet to see the amphitheater actually in use but I've only been in winter.

Absolutely, plan to bring the UTE (Yoda) and Boost, my supercharged 80. Would bring Foo, but not sure the portal axles will be done and tested by then. Instead will put the time into getting Yoda bed sides done hopefully.

Wow, all the ideas are great. I may have some KC locals come out and join for some of the trip too, so really looking forward to this.

As for Brewery tours, I have toured 75 percent of the great breweries across the nation. I was a home brewer for many years, and even made a dedicated room in my basement for brewing. About that time, the good lord and father above decided to remind me that he is boss, and flipped a switch to make me gluten free. All the benefits of Celic, without the cool name! So, breweries have lost their fun for me. Only beer in my frig is Glutiny by New Belguim. Really a great beer.....

Anyway, with your guidance, would really like a top 10 list of trails, viewpoints, campsites, other non-trail have to do things. Josh, @7powernerd drives the UTE (Yoda) daily at 16 years old and my daughter just got her drivers permit, so she will get lots of time driving on the trails. Both have been driving off road since 10 years old, so nothing new to them. My point is that I have come to the realization that the summer trips with kids are going to end in the all too not distant future, so I want to make sure these are special. No pressure, just want to get advice of the can't miss things...

Thanks again, and look forward to seeing you on the trails.

Hope to do some sort of rotation -- maybe camp two nights, then find warm showers and beds for a night. Thinking about putting the RTT on top of YODA's bed, othewise it will be tent camping. Was planning to build a camping trailer, but that will be another time.

I guess the other question is that I was planning on pulling my tow rig to bring down both vehicles, which means I need a place to drop and store the rig/trailer and get to after the adventure is over.

This changes things a bit.

You might want to consider a situation like an RV where you park the truck/trailer at Walmarts/Cracker Barrels/Casinos - all which allow free overnight camping.

This would free you up to drive the trucks to camp sites and hotels, etc.

You could decide if you want to do ONLY the Asheville area or Asheville area and Boone Area, or a few stops per ~4 days or whatever.

Edit: The only casino in NC no longer allows overnight camping according to a couple websites.

Sorry for not being clear. We would drive 12 hours from KC to wherever, drop the truck and trailer somewhere safe, then roll the rigs from that point on for the 10 days, then get back to the truck.

We could drive the two rigs out, but this is how I get to Colorado usually. Bit of a safety net if anything goes wrong, worst case is that we limp back to the trailer for the ride home. I also find that I wheel a little harder when I have this option available.

With the diesel, I get better mileage pulling a rig too. I have not pulled two of them with a goose neck trailer yet, so this is new for me.

Last year we traveled from KC to South Dakota to wheel and see Mt. Rushmore, then over to Yellowstone and finally down to Colorado, where we did have some minor body damage to my friends rig........
