Ahh - Is that Mike? :( Firefighter - so it probably drove home, right? :) Roof rack looks good!

Everything in NC vs CO is tighter, closer, not as steep and easier, for the most part.

This lends itself well to dropping less and driving the 80s more.

The trip from Bryson City to Boone is only 3 hours via highway without traffic or stops.

With 10 Days, my vote would be to drop the trucks off the trailer near Asheville and then just do loops:

Cherokee/Bryson City/Nantahala Loop
Hurricane Creek Loop
Asheville "urban hicking" 2 days
ETC

Did the mustache give away his occupation??? The car sat upside down for a few hours , thus it lost too much tranny fluid, so we were not able to drive it down until we did a parts run. Smoked a little, but drove the two hour trip down the hill, got trailered back to KC. I watched @woody give a lesson on recovery years ago, so I told everyone, not to worry, I was "certified" in recovery -- made them feel better at least.

Oh, and the roof rack is just sitting up there. It was first to fly off.

Good news was four people in the rig with no injuries.

I know Mike :) Horrible pic tho :'( Looks like he was OK, but needed a new truck - I may have read about this.

I have yet to see anything in any of these "over-landing" trips that requires anything more than a stock Land Cruiser.

I took a 2005 Tundra to Hurricane Creek last year - no sliders 2-3" lift - -and did OK. I had some expert guidance on a couple spots from our group @Izzyandsue @NCFJ and the rest that got me "over the hump" literally :)

All said, if there is lots of rain, heavy washouts and you decide to try something crazy that you shouldn't - - I guess you could get stuck. :)

Our biggest obstacles have seemed to be road closures due to fires set by aholes.

Wife was looking at some of the waterfalls that everyone listed out and they look breathtaking!

Getting excited....

So Leslie and I are going to be delivering some farm equipment for a friend that is moving to the western most tip of Virginia around that time frame. I am thinking of bringing camping gear for us to join in for a couple nights. There won't be room for Lexi on my trailer so unless the trails are mild and wide enough for Brutus we are fine with socializing in the evenings and sightseeing via alternate routes.

Bonus thought: Trailer will be available for return trip in case of serious uh-oh moment for others and might even be able to shuttle other tow rigs if needed.

Hi Rob!! Will be great to catch up with you and anyone else coming :)

The ranger trails can be tight. I wouldn't recommend a full size pick-up as a trail rig, but for 80% of what I THINK Kelly wants to do, you would be fine - Driving the Blue Ridge Parkway, Driving to the walking trails to the waterfalls, driving all of the dirt roads to from points of interest like Max Patch, Wolf Creek Falls, etc.

For the rest - you could probably just jump in with someone, right?

It would be interesting to compare the size of my 2005 Tundra vs Brutus - - It wasn't "fun" taking the Tundra on Hurricane Creek - but it was OK. I think there are tougher trails than Hurricane Creek, potentially, but not sure, as well.

Ok, finally getting plans set. likely going to delay the trip a couple days, life is getting in the way. Plan to leave on Thursday the 28th, driving straight through to Asheville area.

Looking to have max additional 3 or 4 rigs, so we will have 6 or 7 rigs if anyone wants to join us. We will have my 40th anniv. 80 on 35's and the Ute on 33's. Don't want too big of group, as will be using primitive campgrounds.

We all have Ham radio's -- we will post up frequency so we can be reached.

@milemarker60 @Robkc @1MAC are any of you able to make it?

28th: Thursday: Road day. Arrive Knoxville and stay at hotel.
29th: Friday: Heintooga Offroad trail day and sightseeing: camping outdoor - Mile High.
30th: Saturday: Heintooga Offroad trail day: morning hike Mingo Falls, drive to hotel/cabin asheville.
1st: Sunday: Asheville sightseeing, drive to campsite or stay in city,
2nd: Monday: ranger trails from Ashville to Brevard area going to Mt. Pisgah -sliding rock? camping
3rd: Tuesday: Brevard area , stay west of Ashville hotel/cabin
4th: Wednesday: Hurricane loop (Round Mountain campground) (any hiking trails?) max patch
5th: thursday: Hurrican Creek loop day 2. (Wolf Creek Falls campground?)
6th Friday: Hurricane Creek Loop day 3 drive to hotel Asheville area.
7th Saturday: hike (need recommendation) jumping off rock. Bridal vail falls. hotel/cabin
8th Sunday: Drive back to KC

Plan is to hit two major Trail loops in addition to doing BRP and ranger trails (Asheville to Brevard) and any other suggestions appreciated.

Heintooga Trail: June 29-30th.

Hopefully camp at mile high campground. Going to call tomorrow. If we have a group coming is there a AirBNB or place to rent?

Hike to Mingo Falls.

Other hikes?

Boost 80
Ute 80
Jamie rig. (80 or tundra)

Sounds like we should make this a three days. @weejub has ideas of campsites.

Hike or drive up to Max patch. Other hiking??

@Trollhole let me know if your buddy's place would be available for a night or two around the 6th and 7th. Thanks for offering to check. More than willing to pitch in some beer money....

@Ppleasants had recommended Iron Bridge campsite and gave me coordinates, with hiking trails nearby. Looks like that is South by the border. Could not find elevation... @weejub told us to think about trying to camp higher in elevation to get a little cooler.

This sounds awesome, Kelly!

We look forward to meeting up.

We have one "gotcha" - there is a small chance we have to go back to Kansas for my Dad. He is going through testing right now and could have major surgery coming :(

I think the %'s are small.

I was also noticing that we have to make breakfast on the 4th for two guests before we leave. Going to try to talk them into a small discount for that day and a continental breakfast so we can get down the road on the 3rd - we shall see.

Here are some of the locations for the Hurricane Creek trip from the entrance on I40 up and around to a few points and back down to Weaverville. Heather and I have only ever followed @Izzyandsue and @NCFJ and others around HC, but i think the key is just have fun and make it to someplace to sleep each night :)

I wish I lived close enough to you to help cover situations like that. It's my dream - cooking for people, small scale, who paid money but not in MY place!

We want to make dreams happen here at The Rosemary House B&B and The Kindred Gallery.

I could see a future "vacation" for you and Sarah - maybe one morning cooking breakfast for guests and then enjoy the weekend the rest of the time.

Interesting idea. Do you prefer hair nets or chef hats at TRH?

KC Royals MLB hats and a beard net if you have one at that time. You would also have to take the 30-min Serve Safe course :)

Finally got a chance to see how the schedules match up and unfortunately it doesn't look too good. I'll be working on a bathroom remodel Jun 20-29 in Virginia. Then we are heading up to Western Maryland for birthday celebrations with my siblings Jun 30 - Jul 4 and we just found out we need to back in St Louis for a funeral on Jul 6th.
