What exactly are you doing with this information? Just curious I saw mention of a spreadsheet. I'd be curious to see it.

The spreadsheet is on Post #374. Check it out. I don't believe it has been updated since that post though.

I found a 2f that I am looking at swapping into my cruiser but the owner doesn't know what year it is out of . Valve cover says 2F and the serial number is 870109. Any suggestions on the approximate year of this motor?

Spreadsheet in Post #374 on page 19 of this thread - it looks like it's probably from an '86 FJ60 (spreadsheet includes 867885 for an October 1985 build date).

Ok, I'll play

Build date: February 1975
Vin #: FJ40-193674
Engine S #: 2F 006585

This is from a Piston thread I started, and it's evolved to this is not my 1972 motor thread...

Below is from SOR. If I am reading this correctly, this is a 1975 motor somewhere between April and October. The stamp on mine is 40905 and is NOT above the starter motor. It is on the opposite side of the starter. Man I hope that is not a bad sign.

Located in Texas
Purchased last month.
Mine is Jun 77 also--FJ40-252561--looks like just before zekerd73's

On an engine I heard about: "P 348503"; I WAS thinking that P should be an "F", and thus actually 2F 348503. Apparently, that is not the case. Anyone know the year/production date origin?

***Update: I see someone else had a "P" stamped on theirs, so it's a legit letter. Plus, I've been reading through this thread and the 1975s that are before and after each other don't jive in sequence on that SOR chart. Toyota very well could've jumbled around tue blocks in a given year. They've done it at Ford, Chevy, so on...so I figure why not Toyota?

Don't know if it's the original engine. How can I know if it came with it?
