We still have a fair amount to do such as paint the hood and log lots of miles. The build will keep going until we send it home. 🤙

Cheers

We have been working everything out now that the Cruiser is on the road.

Such as programming the Auber combo gauge and then making sure it is accurate by checking to a mechanical gauge.

We finished the A/C compressor cap and lines yesterday, now we just need to get it charged.

We have also been driving it, testing the different tunes and monitoring EGTs. We have got five tunes with the Unichip and map selector switch.

Basic tune they call “stock” is 18psi max, this is the one we will break the engine in on.

There is a towing tune that runs 25psi.

The rest of the tunes are power, offroad and economy. All these tunes max boost is 30psi.

It has tons of power in any of the tunes but it is an absolute rocket at 30psi.

In the “stock” tune with 18psi I had to try as hard as I could to crack 1200* and it just barely cracked that. I did see 1450* in the higher boost tunes and again trying real hard to get temps and EGTs high. You basically have to lug the engine with low rpms, low boost, high load and lots of fuel/throttle to get it above 1200*. So for our standards, EGTs are fully under control with just the top mount.

Cheers

That radio is excellent in the modern 70 series dash. No complaints at all.

Alpine makes a stupidly clean retrofit 9" headunit with 70 series specific surround in OE form. We did one two weeks ago and the unit's performance is astounding. It also has buttons as a radio should have, irrespective whether one has steering or touch controls-

Is that a VDJ7x?

Cheers

Yep, well we fit them to the VDJ7* here. It's super nice but the deal breaker on those for me is that you loose the factory clock and hazard light button.
Yep, that is a bummer but Hazard is relocated lower and the screen has a clock too, either next to the HVAC controls on the previous models or on the new ones a 22mm hazard switch is integrated low down. The previous 8" Alpine LC70 specific unit kept the clock and hazard but on the facelift the switch and clock have changed size, so you need to get older switch and clock and do some splicing to make them work.
