Finally pulled the rear diff after Tuttle. Something gave out and the rear drive-shaft would turn, but the tires did not (DOH!). Turns out it was a broken cross shaft. Ring and pinion look OK (a little damage to the very end of a couple of pinion teeth but reusable, especially since it's a trailer queen). I think I'm going to replace the rear with a spool, and then replace the front Aussie with an air locker. I have an IFS width rear axle that I started to build up with rear discs, so I'm going to roll that into this project and just put a whole near rear axle under it and get rid of the wheel spacers.
Cross shaft broken into 3 pieces. You can see the end of the shaft sticking out on the left, and the broken center piece sticking out of the Aussie. It also peened the carrier over the lip of the ring gear, so I couldn't take the ring gear off until I got the broken pieces out and the dinged carrier out of the way.
So out came the cut off wheel. Never could get one end of the pin out of the carrier. Oddly, one of the carrier bearings fell off during dissasembly, it was not a tight press fit.
The edge of the cross shaft hole on the Aussie is the only damage I see to the locker. Not sure if this would be reusable in this condition? Teeth all look brand new.
