Reviving this thread to say it's still ongoing, just slowly. Life and work have been busy, I'm building a paint booth in my garage and chasing after a nasty leak on the Land Crusier.

Excuses aside, I've got a functional prototype in hand and have a few adjustments to make before I have some actual Ti pieces cut. Expect some more worthy updates in coming weeks!

Any new updates? I’ve had my fob fall off twice this week!

New parts came in and I have the fitment figured out for the rounded button designs. It's functional, but ugly. I need to revise the button cutouts and have some Ti parts cut for testing. I'm almost there.

The square button design will be next and I think it'll be very similar. I hope progress to move quickly on that one.

I'm going to have half a dozen Ti parts cut with different geometries to see what yields the best "feel" when inserting the metal key. That is by far the biggest unknown right now. If my initial idea fails, I'll need to revise the design for a different key retainer mechanism.

Thanks for the quick reply, I’m ready for that key ring on body life.

Okay - I'll be that guy - where are we on this @suprarx7nut ? Any news for us key fob hungry hoards?

Haha. I was wondering when someone would bump this!

Here's status:
Second round plastics came out fantastic. Function seems 100%, but I don't have a car to test with so I'll need a local volunteer (northern Colorado). Buttons function, LED indicates normally, everything fits well, etc...

I'm working on the rounded button version first. Squared button version will follow.

Titanium piece is the big question mark and current road block to progress. I need to have a handful cut with differing dimensions to determine the right thickness and latch mechanism for the key. This requires a bit of CAD time and I haven't gotten to it yet.

Once HIH is past, in early July, I expect to have quick progress. For right now preparation for HIH, for both my own vehicle and the key product, has taken priority in my seemingly diminishing free time.

I’m in CO Springs, not super close, but if you want to do some testing we might be able to make something work.

In need... any progress update?

I'm settled after HIH8 a couple weeks ago and can now dedicate some real time to it. I expect I'll be 3 weeks away from getting Titanium samples in from my cutting service. The CAD design of the plastics is done, save some final aesthetic tweaking. I just need to prove out the Titanium key hold/release mechanism. I'll order a bunch of different design variants to try to ensure I get one right and can let this thing loose ASAP. A section of the Ti will be a living hinge and it's a bit of a guessing game on what will feel "right".

Thanks for the follow up!

For my own learning, which feature broke on your current key? (Keyring loop, case body, release mechanism, etc...)

Did you take orders yet? i'm seeing this for the first time and I want one or two, probably two.

No orders taken yet. I'll produce a functional prototype first and ensure I've got the manufacturing details dialed in before taking any money/orders. Pricing should be very close to the 100 series version, possibly a slight amount lower (less titanium cutting and slightly thinner material, but more plastic so we'll see).

So far I got the plastic case all done, compatible with the rounded button remote (squared one coming up next). The titanium has a big job in this assembly so it's gotta be juuuuust right. I'm very anxious to get the cut pieces back!

I hate to be that guy asking for something additional when the first round isn't out yet, but any intention of making an LX570 version? I would absolutely love a bright red or yellow key. My daughter's favorite past time is stealing my key fob and hiding it in the darkest corner of the houe she can find.

As the father of a 1 year old, I can start to relate. She loves my phones and often hides them in or under the couch. I keep my keys up normally, but it's only a matter of time before they're lost.

Yeah, I'll consider branching out to all the same generation (~07~14) remotes for Toyota/Lexus. I didn't prioritize the Lexus ones because the OEM ones are really nice. The Toyota ones are cheap and break, but the Lexus ones are actually decent so I figured there would be a smaller market for my product.

I'll take note of the request though, and add it to the list!

Count me in!

True, my 10 year old fobs look barely used and the integrated key and mechanism is all metal and seems much more robust. But I'd gladly pay for a couple brightly colored replacements.

TITANIUM IS IN!

Titanium function is a success. It acts as a guide for the key, retains the key, is the button for the key release, is the keyring and provides a nice aesthetic feature running up the side of the case. I'll likely increase the quality of the edge on the Titanium so it looks even nicer once we roll into production.

Next steps: Plastics update. The case functions now, but it's ugly. It'll get a lot of refinement and material removal in the next print and really tighten up the button holes. I'll also have it done in the final material which will improve the finish drastically and give a better feel for what the final product will be.

Current pic of Titanium and prototype (ugly) plastics below. Please note final product will have an entirely different (higher quality) finish.
