You know my update from a year ago. I stayed with the 1FZ and went turbo and couldn't be happier. It has none of the racecar characteristics people were worried about, no turbo lag, or needing to be at high rpms all the time. I can pass without having to hit the throttle hard enough to make the truck downshift, etc. Very happy, just took a lot to get there. Still about 90% done. I have an exhaust leak, and am building an even bigger intercooler, but I wouldn't change a thing. (well that's not true. I would of planned ahead and upgraded head studs and gasket during my rebuild)

You know mine, being a TEQ fanboy..... even if it's a rebadged, domestically produced offering.

A question, and reason for bumping this and five other long dead threads.

If swapping a 1FZ, what's the easiest way to deal with the ECU to run any tranny, TC behind?

i could see doing a turbo and water/meth injection but i would rather just diesel swap

Running any tranny behind the 1FZ would be no problem. the A343F has its own TCU.

I expect that you are also not talking about in an 80. SO you wouldn't have to worry about adapting the transmission speedo output to the stock 80 gauges. If you are looking for a custom kind of retro gauge I recommend the ones I used in my 55, there have a lot of dipswitches to calibrate.

They were Haneline gauges.

Only issue would be bell housing. I was looking at having a 1uz bell housing made for a transaxle but I am going to let that project die.

I'm not, but doesn't matter.

Any thread on any board claims the only way to swap in a 1FZ is with the tranny, TC, and entire harness.

You're claiming otherwise, and it's piqued curiosity, even though the initial draft includes the H151 and HF1A, which "should" work.

Anything is possible. Hell you could swap a 1FZ into a submarine if you wanted to. If you are just looking to run the 1FZ you only need like 5 outputs, plus the injectors. That is how I setup my standalone. I left the stock ECU and TCU so that all the other systems would work; 2nd gear start, power button, center diff locker, gauges, etc. but if you were going to run some other transmission be it a manual or a manual valve body auto, or standalone electronic auto that would all be independent of the engine all you would need to run would be those wires, crank, cam, tps, maf, ignition, etc

I've turbo'd a 3FE and a 3VZE in the past, solely because they were dogs in the power department. I think a turbo setup on the 1FZ-FE would be great, but to me, the stock motor combined with being slightly undergeared, has just enough power to keep me from going for it. Don't get me wrong, it's crossed my mind, but I am "content" enough power wise to skip it. Just my 2 cents.

You can never have enough power....
:)

Posted this everywhere, probably here, too.....

The fastest vehicle I've owned is a GX470, to qualify the expectation level though.

That chart doesn't make any sense? How would they loose torque and spool with the torque converter locked and spraying nitrous?? Me thinks someone mislabeled that graph. Green looks like torque and red looks like HP. The cross at 140kph is probably really the torque/hp cross at 5250rpm.

With the torque converter locked you wouldn't have any slip so you would see more load, which spools the turbo faster, and people have been using nitrous as a way to "spray to spool" for years. This graph is wrong. IMHO.

Oh that is funny I have tracked that car, but it must have been after they blew up the first motor and went to a forged bottom end. Even still I don't think that dyno is right and am chalking it up to a mistake or mixup of dyno graphs. But even still the 1FZ when it did go was around 925hp and running 140+mph in the 1/4. Pretty impressive for a stock bottom end! If anything that just makes me believe it is totally safe at just over 400hp like I am running.

Now on a forged bottom end he is running an 1850hp turbo! lol

what size turbo is that an HT3B? lol

Ummm that is a GT60, it flows 2.5 times as much as a HT3B, about 186lbs/min compared to 75lbs/min for the HT3B. Remember that is a 1FZ-FE in there not some little 4 cylinder. lol.
