@wngrog hitting the Runza. :rofl:

A runza (also called a bierock, krautburger, or kraut pirok) is a yeast dough bread pocket with a filling consisting of beef, cabbage or sauerkraut, onions, and seasonings.[3][4][5][6] Runzas can be baked into various shapes such as a half-moon, a rectangle, a round (bun), a square, or a triangle. The runzas sold by the Runza restaurant chain are rectangular while many of the bierocks sold in Kansas are round buns.[7]

The runza is a regional cuisine of Nebraska, with some commentators calling it "as Nebraskan as Cornhusker football."[8] It is served by the Nebraska Society of Washington, D.C.[9] and the Nebraska Society of New York[10] at their Taste of Nebraska events and was chosen to represent the state at Flavored Nation, an event serving iconic dishes from all fifty states.

Yeah, fast food krautburger. You could have done better
I still feel bad from the 3 bites I had.

Dropped @wngrog at his place and checked on my 40. All good and Cowboy has things under control.

Filled up with fuel and going to get some food before heading towards Mobile. Not sure if I will stay there or Hattiesburg tonight. I have been on the road for a while now but this truck makes it easy for sure. This is definitely a comfortable truck for long hauls.

Last couple legs of the journey for me was to Mosley Motors to pick up parts for John’s 40 I’m working on and rub on his 45 series and of course show off the HDJ80

John and Nolen stopped by this afternoon on the trip south…

Holy cow

You know how most trucks look better on the internet than they do in person? That is not the case here. The internet pics are an understatement. Top notch craftsmanship and attention to detail everywhere. And it is bitchen to drive too :grinpimp:

Hat tip to Ian and the gang, this truck is perfect!

🙏 Cam, glad you got to check it out and drive it! 😄

Cheers

I ended up making it just a little east of Mobile. Not really by choice. Pretty much every hotel is booked in Mississippi because of people displaced from the last hurricane. That’s okay because it was a really nice drive through southeast MS. The truck did around 800 miles today and made it look easy. It was loving the cool humid air along the coast this evening.

Man, now that I've calmed down a bit and thought about it, this truck is really a work of art. @SNLC totally knocked it out of the park on this build. @Onur sourced some amazing parts. All this to make John's vision come true.

One thing that is amazing is how you can put this thing in 5th gear and leave it in 5th gear. Not once did I have to downshift to 4th on a hill, nor did I ever lose speed on a hill. In fact often on big climbs I would start at the bottom at 75 MPH then smash the throttle and by the time we made it to the top we would be at 80 MPH and the EGTs would be around 1000* and the second you let off at the top the EGTs would drop to 7-800*

The H152 transmission is a perfect transmission. Short throw. Evenly spaced and a good overdrive. We cruised between 2400-2600 RPM all the way (we lied to Ian and said we varied the RPMs)

I crawled under it at Mosley Motors and the underside is as nice as the top side.

Im not a diesel convert over all this but IF there was going to be a diesel in the house it would have to be this one. All others pale in comparison.

Its almost as good as a 2UZ

🙏 @wngrog I know you hate diesels so this mean a lot coming from you.

We put A LOT into this build, we are truly stoked it turned out so phenomenal. It’s what John wanted, no automatic but a true HDJ80 manual trans beast. Happy to deliver.

😎🤙

Cheers

I would have completely lost my s*** good on you guus for staying cool and collective. Nice dang plane too can you send it to Currituck Nc to pick me up for your cookout bbq we have a local small airport 😁😁

Made it home around 1:30 with zero issues and zero complaints from me. Averaged between 16.7 and 18.9 mpg on the way home. Was about what I expected.
Literally half the fuel my supercharged 1FZ typically consumes. Probably faster too. :crybaby:

So John made it home today. Not as big of a road trip as his drive home in the PZJ77 we built for him a few years ago but twice as epic!

Ya know, if any one of us had the means we would have done the same. Two years he was without this Cruiser, he wasn’t going to let a little mishap with the shipper stop him from putting this Cruiser in his shop, sooner rather than later! 😎🤙

So now that it is home, here is my shout out and thank you to everyone!

@jomelo man, without you and folks like you, we couldn’t do this. Massive thanks and a supreme pleasure! It was super important to both myself and Chris that you came out and went over this Cruiser in person, we can’t thank you enough for taking the time and making that happen. 🙏

@Onur delivered! We got some left overs, we had some head scratching during the process but this guy delivered! I could have maybe found most things he sourced however, he made/makes my life way easier and much more productive so thanks my man, it was a pleasure on this one. Stoked you got to see it and drive it in person!! In the dirt even, how good is that!? 🤩🤙

@Japan4X4 if Onur was not getting parts from him, I was. Dave, solid my man and thank you for all you do for us. 👍

@Indestructible 47 @AussieHJCruza yo bros from across the pond, many thanks! You guys have proven to be an invaluable resource for us. Thanks so much for your time and effort. I am dubbing you two, the procurorers of unobtanium! 😂

Is that even a word? *Procurorers*? Perhaps I should say, the “blokes who procure unobtanium”? 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

@wngrog thanks my man, you helped John rescue this Cruiser. Super solid and you have also given your honest opinions even being a diesel hater. 🙏

@orangefj45 Georg, man if nothing else I am sure I consulted you at least once in this build. You have always been a solid person to me and proven yourself many times. Your suggestion from last time we talked made a BIG improvement so thank you for your vast experience and humble attitude. 🙏

@wardharris it’s got a Kaymar Ward, you supplied it! Not to mention sliders and belly skids you hauled down from Canada, dropped off to me more than two years ago and now those have gone full circle. Back to Florida and then back to Idaho and installed on this Cruiser! Thanks for everything you do for us Ward. 🙏

@99 sr5 highlander Chris my man, you got to change your call name on here! 😆😝😂 You have absolutely proven yourself in this shop dozens of times. It is an absolute pleasure to work with you here on this build and ALL builds. I am super stoked you enjoy this and are part of this shop! 🥰

@cruiseroutfit you guys have been solid with me for well over ten years. Do I need to say more!? 🥰🤙

Now for the rest, I either don’t know you on iH8mud or don’t even know of you are on here. 🤗🤷🏼‍♂️

Toyota (!), Redarc, Dobinsons, Filthy Motorsports, ARB, SLEE, Ridged Industries, King Shocks, GTurbo, Warn, Masterpull, Trekboxx, Equipt and National Luna, Factor55, Baja Designs, Beaudesert Exhaust, Odyssey Batteries, ICOM, Cruisin Off-Road, Redhead Steering, Crutchfield, Interior Revolution (find on IG), National Coatings (local), Industrial Hardware (local), Lamb Cylinder Heads (local), Throttle Works (local), POR15, Depo, Tom Woods Drivelines, Fast Blast & Coat (local), Trashlux (Aussie), PDI of Australia, @TonyP for test driving (!), Joey for the cargo panel and OBA plugs, and anyone else I missed! There is definitely a few!

Its been an enjoyable, rewarding and epic journey. As you can see in this build thread the Cruiser came to us half done and sub-par. It took us a year but we fit it in and made it happen. There is absolutely nothing better or a better end in this “game” for it to play out the way it has.

Thanks ALL for following along and I am sure this thread will continue as John logs miles on this beauty 80-series!

Cheers

Thanks for the opportunity to be involved, I'm sure I speak for @Indestructible 47 as well when I say it was a pleasure to work along with you all @SNLC @jomelo @Onur on an epic build!

The HDJ159 is just cranking up! You two are delivering again! Solid. 🤙

Many other vendors will be involved in this build too. John (I think) likes the Kings, the GTurbo, the Kaymar, the Scheelmann, the Warn, the SwitchPros and more.

However he wants the HDJ179 setup, we are here to deliver. It may just top this build and in a shorter time span. Same engine and trans but part time 4wd and much lighter not to mention that chip we are working on! 😉

Stoked to work with both of you on that project as well not to mention my 80 HDJ80 Ute chop. 😎

Cheers

Amazing build guys, and some great stories to go along with it. Thanks for the detailed write-up and sharing so much about it.

I've got some questions @SNLC about the fuel dual-filter setup you've got going on with this rig. I've got the 1HZ and wanted to add the factory pre-filter to my 80, but the official assembly listed is 23330-17010, which was available a few years ago but is now NLA. It looks like this:
1631188762668.webp

I notice the filter setup you've got going on here looks very different to what I'm familiar with though. Do you happen to have the part numbers you used, or the details on the model this setup is from? I see Toyota stamped on the housing, and you state it's genuine which I don't doubt, just trying to match parts to see if I want to adapt it for my 1HZ. I know the fuel lines are different diameters between the 1HZ and 1HD but I can work with that.

I'd shelved this for a future problem, expecting to have to find an aftermarket solution, but if there are some alternate OEM parts I can order and rig something up on my 80, I might just shell out for it in my next parts order.
