We are pretty happy with our custom in house, tire carrier bracket. Chris knocked it out of the park on this, takes like five seconds to pull it if you need the spare. 😎

Best 80-series I have ever seen or had the pleasure of driving let alone the honor to build.

🙏 @jomelo your baby is headed home tomorrow!

Cheers

It’s been an eventful weekend - just not the good kind. Sometime early Sunday morning I learned that the hauler bringing my truck and another car had a mishap in Nebraska. A leaf spring broke on one of the axles under the enclosed trailer. The truck is fine but the trailer is not. No such luck on getting it fixed given the holiday weekend and it appears the fix would take at least a couple of days. Tried to find another hauler but that’s gonna be several days as well because of height issues. I checked with @wngrog and he wasn’t doing anything so I got a plane and off we went.

I left Tallahassee around 1:30 today and picked up Nolen about an hour later. We just landed in Lincoln, Nebraska, to get the truck and road trip it home.

There is way more to that story In Nebraska then John led on to. I’m not letting a hood story like this pass with that 1/2 ass explaination

Sunday AM John calls.

He’s speaking to a Russian that has a minor grasp of the English language but in a nutshell when he broke his trailer he had to unload the 80 and the Aston Martin and leave them while he limped the trailer off the interstate

Somehow it got commentated back to John that he came back and the cars were gone.

Mild panic.

John starts working the phones and a governor or two and a highway patrol commissioner may have gotten rousted. Who knows but in the end with the language barrier and a holiday weekend it was time to act.

I’m not sure of anyone here follows John’s other builds but I’m currently working on his 1978 FJ40. I was in the kitchen last night and he called and I answered on speaker and he said “what are you doing tomorrow?”
I said “working on your 40”
He said “I’m renting a jet to go get my 80 and I’ll swing by Mississippi and pick you up”

Huh. Ok. Hell yeah.

I hang up and my wife is in the other room and says “I’m glad that was on speaker because that would be hard to believe otherwise”

The next day…..

Geez, I didn’t get those details. 😑

I feel better now that you guys have retrieved the 80 and are knocking down miles.

Cheers

So yeah. That really happened. I get picked up on a ****ing jet and turn a 12 hour drive into a 1.5 hour flight

We land. Get an Uber driver that got lost. Order another. He’s grumpy as hell but then again so would I be if I lived in Lincoln Nebraska.
He takes us 10 miles to a warehouse area and there is the 80 and a sports car behind a ratty ass enclosed trailer.

The tent had to be removed to get it in the trailer so we had to pop it up too before we left. John was talking slang southern to the Russian in the Mickey Mouse tShirt and the guy was just nodding his head.

I started to ask the guy what really happened on Saturday night but I decided to just stay quiet for once

We hit the road south and the entire food selection is chain food from anywhere USA and I saw some joint that looked 1/2 ass local so we swung in. I saw the sammich they said was the “original” and some “famous fries” and tore into dinner.

Holy s***. Yankee food. Chopped beef and cabbage with frozen crinkle cut fries and Pepsi.

Holy hell.

Hey for the record @wngrog that was not my driver/shipper.

I considered him borderline janky, if he was full janky I wasn’t going to let the Cruiser go. My suggestion on transport quoted us at the cost of a new engine! 🤯

Cheers

@wngrog hitting the Runza. :rofl:

A runza (also called a bierock, krautburger, or kraut pirok) is a yeast dough bread pocket with a filling consisting of beef, cabbage or sauerkraut, onions, and seasonings.[3][4][5][6] Runzas can be baked into various shapes such as a half-moon, a rectangle, a round (bun), a square, or a triangle. The runzas sold by the Runza restaurant chain are rectangular while many of the bierocks sold in Kansas are round buns.[7]

The runza is a regional cuisine of Nebraska, with some commentators calling it "as Nebraskan as Cornhusker football."[8] It is served by the Nebraska Society of Washington, D.C.[9] and the Nebraska Society of New York[10] at their Taste of Nebraska events and was chosen to represent the state at Flavored Nation, an event serving iconic dishes from all fifty states.

Yeah, fast food krautburger. You could have done better
