I got the -10AN turbo drain line fitting welded onto the oil pan.

Before I pulled the engine, I drained the oil and sent a sample to Blackstone Labs. Although they do not have enough data to calculate averages for the 1HZ engine specifically, the report is overall positive compared to universal averages. All wear metals are in the low single digits, which is good.

I have already reached out to Blackstone Labs to ask about the comparatively high levels of molybdenum to see if it's due to oil additives or ring wear. I will post more data as soon as I have it.

Just heard back from Blackstone Labs. They said that the molybdenum (along with other elements like boron, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and zinc) is simply an oil additive and not an indication of a problem. Ring wear would typically show elevated levels of chrome as a primary indicator. With zero PPM chrome indicated in my sample, ring wear is a non-issue.

Basically, the engine oil sample indicates the 1HZ is in excellent shape.

Congrats on the build Will, and thanks for taking the AC kit.

Looking forward to your engine mods. :)
Thanks, Ward! Looking forward to having A/C in the truck.
Hey Will just curious, why the twin sticks, anything specific?
Just my personal preference. I installed twin sticks on my old FJ40 and really liked them. I thought they were easier to engage and offered more options to operate the truck the way I want in any given scenario.

I use 2WD low often. Granted, with manual locking hubs, it’s less of an issue. But I like to have precise control over all of the individual components of the truck (transfer case, gearing selection, front diff engagement, and hubs).

I suppose the only scenario where it makes any real difference is if you want to leave the hubs locked, but cycle in and out of 2WD and 4WD on the trail.

gets rid of the vacuum actuator too right?

No sir, this truck was originally equipped with a manual-shift transfer case. The twin-stick conversion simply allows you to shift 2WD/4WD and Hi/Low independently of each other.

I think some 60/62 series had vacuum actuated t-case (perhaps with the automatic?). But I’m no expert on that.

Georg (@orangefj45) at Valley Hybrids also offers a vacuum-to-manual actuator conversion for the split t-cases if you’re interested in that.

If you need anything Land Cruiser related (but especially drivetrain and axle stuff) Georg is the man!!!

I think I see a fingerprint on one of the gears. For shame!

Oooh! Maybe that's my path to getting the "missing" things from the 2-volume fsm vs. the single volume.

The 2-volume omits information that the single volume contains?

Good gravy !!!! I want to do that for my troopy
I actually printed two copies. PM me if you’re interested in a set.
