Driving around today, getting ready for my daughters graduation on Sunday. Beautiful day. Doors off, hot weather.

Welcome to Colorado.

That’s right, it’s getting down to 26 degrees Saturday night and snowing. Tonight about 7:00 a huge cold front and wind blast and the temp is dropping quickly. The ride back from dinner was freezing and just hammering with wind.

So what do we do? Top and doors back on ready for some rain and snow.

Yep! 90 yesterday and a high of 45 today. Good times...

I only have a couple pictures of the 4runner, nothing fancy here :)

It's an 18yr olds, it's not clean

My daughter graduated on Sunday, 2 kids graduated, 1 more to go. he's in 7th grade, so we've got a little bit. She wanted to drive the Cruiser in the senior parade. Her boyfriend and friends rode with her.

I'm so proud of her, great kid, middle child syndrome and all. Antagonist master, sasshole, but a really great and kind kid.

Well, I was tired of hoarding parts. Time to get some stuff done.

Yeah so stopped here for the night. 2 hours trying to get these studs out.:bang: I only have one left, it’s a stubborn bastard. My PB blaster is gone, heat isn’t working. It’s rocking back and fourth a mm at a time.

I wasn’t expecting this much stubbornness since these were redone when I rebuilt the engine.

ToMorrow after work I’ll start the it again. It should go fairly quick once I get this stud out, at least until the next issue

Also on the list is tap @ die to chase those threads. New copper crush washers.

The exhaust will be interesting until I can build it. My nephews are both building exhausts for classic cars so I need to jump in with them soon and do the same.

With it torn down to this point, how easy does it look to get to the engine oil cooler to remove it? I have an oil leak somewhere near/in the cooler-to-block interface.

Is the air cleaner assembly also pulled?

Thanks!

Of course where would we be without a very next step issue. So my CNC adapter is slightly off from my actual bolt holes. Not sure which one is off, but I’m going to have to drill out to clear the bolts. Just enough off they won’t thread.

It will line up pretty good, the flex couplers will let it reach just fine.

Now the drain line. Going to have to futz with it more. At the moment it’s almost touching the exhaust manifold and I’m not happy with the direction. I knew this part would take some work.

Nice to see this is finally getting the attention it deserves!! 😜

Try to resist the urge to use a bigger hammer and take your time to do it right, as frustrating as that is! I am excited to see how this turns out!!:popcorn:

Looks like a fair amount.

When can you swing by and strip mine down to that point so I can get to the cooler? :grinpimp:

Tempting...but no. If...and IF you don't have issues with the turbo bolts, it's actually pretty quick to get to that point. Maybe an hour if you don't fight those bolts.

yeah, I've been dragging my feet. I don't have a drill press so add that to the list for this conversion. I'll get there!

Finally after using the Drill press to enlarge the holes, and grinding the other side, I got the adapter to mount up. It didn’t take a whole lot, just time.

The next little bit took quite awhile. Getting the drain lined up, almost no room. Lots of bending and moving around. Not ideal but it’s doing to take something fully custom to work. Hopefully this works for now.

The drain to turbo fitting was too tight between bolt spacing, had to enlarge that.

The drain fitting to Block didn’t have exact spacing as well. :bang: Had to enlarge those a little to get the bolts to line up. Again just more and more time futzing with stuff.

Right now the supply line, drain line are ready to go (need to prefil turbo) the turbo is in place although I have 1 nut to put on. It’s the back corner where you can’t see or reach. After 15 minutes of trying to get this nut on I’m done. It’s dark, late and I’m annoyed which is the sign to shut it down.

You can see the racer blue silicon oil return and braided supply line. Getting closer but I still have a few things to do before startup.

As just another reason to slow me down. Barn cat decided to have a litter yesterday. FYI those aren’t my pink nails, you think I drive a Lexus?

And a week and half before the other cat had a litter. Free kittens for anyone who helps with the cruiser, or wants one, or gives me an address to mail them.

All in all, the G-turbo/munro/gmt make a lot of sense. They bolt right on. This project would
Have been done in a few hours with one of those turbos. Hopefully this is worth it.

So progress. I got that stupid bolt on within 1 minute. Sometimes it’s good to take a break. Started getting the air filter top trimmed and all
The silicon intake parts all seemed to fit nice from the air filter to turbo.

From turbo to crossover pipe isn’t the best. It worked, I still need to order better clamps.

The turbo coolant hose hose has just been looped. I plan to put an external water temp sensor there.

One turbo nut was almost impossible to tighten with the clocking of the turbo. A combo of grinding a cheap open end 13mm (yeah 13mm, who uses those?). Allowed me to get it.

The pcv hose is just temporarily extended and open to atmosphere below the engine.

Of course between climbing around the rig I found this.

So with everything hooked up, it was time to crank it up.

Yep, no exhaust just a down pipe.

Of course I had plenty of running around for tools and parts. Gave me a chance to bring my partner in crime. Always takes longer with the Wolfhound. Had to take the sienna as cruiser down, tundra broken strut, daughter had her 4Runner and wife has the westy.

Even though the sienna is boring as all get out, Finn loves leather seats and open windows.

Face of joy.

Took it for a quick little spin up the road. Tried to record it but it didn’t turn out well. Part throttle, this thing boosts quick. I didn’t push it hard so I don’t have a full feel of it.

Yep, sounds like a bread truck with no exhaust.

So I went full @wngrog on the exhaust.

Nothing says Murica like flex pipe exhaust. This is just temp until I bring the other piece into the shop so they can make it tie into the old exhaust (for now)

So I got a big section of flex pipe and a split pipe bracket I attempted to weld it. Holy boogers and blow through I know I haven’t welded anything in over a decade, but holy crap lol Splattery dots and junk.

So I grabbed a chunk of rusty steel and made a semi passable bead. Yep that other exhaust flex is junk lol.

Only problem now is I can’t find my 2.5” exhaust camp for the Downpipe so not driving it until I get one tomorrow. Always something.
