some seat options:

Manual BMW seats from an e30 or e46 series, with Torfab's adapter brackets. Should work well in your '87.

There are a couple options with the BMW seats - "sport" seats are generally leather with big side bolsters and "comfort" seats are generally vinyl with less bolstering. I have comfort seats and they are much better than stock. Got the pair off CL for $150 in good condition and they are holding up well after 3 or 4 years. (I had to make my own brackets because pre-85 cruisers have different seat mounts.)

These are not cheap, but if your parents really love you, they'll want you to be comfortable, right? These are one of the few options for new seats that more or less bolt-in.

Removed all the old the old carpet and padding from the front and rear of the car today. Pulled the front and rear seats, stripped out all the old jute padding with wire brushes, cleaned it all with denatured alcohol, then applied the new deadener.

Chris and I discovered some lovely 25 year old things under the carpet and seats. One discovery was a very old, melted candy/food of some sort that was puddled under the rear heater. We also found loads of other tasty things.

After a solid vacuum and scrub, it was time for sound deadener.

I found this mystery hole under my carpet. The previous owner must have cut this for some reason. Why, i dont know. But its just this ragged hole down to the transmission that they covered with duck tape and carpet.

I put a patch plate over it with 4 self-tapping screws and some super strong apoxy glue that sealed it up really well.

Then I dropped the truck off for new marine-rated carpet, and new upholstery for the front and rear seats.

Ill be gone for 3 weeks to Europe but when I get back the truck will be done and ill post pictures

Thanks Viper! It was great to meet you too. Iv been really behind in the whole forum department because of work and stuff. I should have a big post up this weekend regarding interior, dash changes, some exterior decals i got made etc. Stay tuned.

@KeepCruzin what is the deadener that you put down? Looks like the stuff from lowes/home depot but cant quite tell.

Will you let me drive it at Gold lake? I want to feel that nice Diesel torque and shifting all 5 gears. PLEASE!!! LMAO.

I think i will use my kids college fund to do a diesel swap, they are smart enough to survive. LOL

No problem Viper! you can for sure take it for a spin.

Heres the stuff. I got it at Goodmans Hardware (a local place). But it was only $20 a roll. It took about three rolls to do the front half of the car, and another two to do the back one layer thick. *the firewall is double, the transmission dome is tripple, and the rest is single layer.

Hey guys! So here's a few pictures of the new interior!

The seats are original mechanicals with new foam, lumbar support, new cloth, and de-enforced vinyl sides to try to stem the signature tear.
Carpet is marine rated cut pile in dark grey. Carpet is laid over thick jute sound deadener on top of my "tinfoil" deadener that I laid.

So far I LOVE IT. Seats are 1000x more comfortable and supportive. Carpet and deadener greatly decreased the engine noise inside the truck.
Wheel wells in rear have been carpeted and padded (no more silly foam things)

I'll post more pics tomorrow!

Other updates: replaced my oil pressure gauge in my dash after my friend Chris fried it by clamping the possitive lead to the negative terminal.

Also got all my AC stuff mounted! More pics to come shortly

That looks killer dude !

Great job, did you new jute the whole thing, and if so what thickness jute did you use?

Did the upholstery shop cut and install the carpet? When I install it it never fits right :(

Looks awesome. Who did the seats and carpet? I will take mine to them. Thanks.

Blake
His name is Juan Cruz. He works out of Sonoma California. Pm me and I'll send you his number

I did 1.5" jute over the deadener. Works great!

Yes. Juan cut and sewed all the carpet. He even did covers for the wheel wells to eliminate the trashy "foam" covers that come stock. It fits like a glove everywhere
