Jeez, your rear drums shoes look shot to sh*t anyway...good timing on the overhaul. You sure the drums aren't chewed up??

Oh I put on new drums. (Re-machined used ones)
Yeah the shoes were down to the metal. Sooooo bad
But the drivers side one was in good shape! I was so confused.

How do I tighten my E-Brake? I know it's supposed to be self adjusting but it's really quite loose.

Good work!

Make sure both side bellcranks are functioning properly. If they are you can pull on the cable where it attaches to them a few time each and it should self adjust the e brakes. You should get about 7 clicks from your hand brake full engaged.

There's a screw on the E-brake handle itself (actually the screw is ON the cable, but you'll find it if you take the cover off of the E-brake handle.

Tighten it and the brake will engage sooner.

Where'd you get the red hose clamps? I'm diggin' that jack too.

Looks great! Where did you get your 80 series brake MC? I need to replace mine...
I got mine through a shop called Mudrak Custom Cruisers.
You can buy them new from Toyota though!

I painted the hose clamps myself with hi-temp brake caliper paint haha
I started out using the bottle jack then just picked up the whole rear end with my hi-lift.

How do I know if my rear brakes are evenly adjusted?
When I took apart the old ones, one was DONE- Down to bare metal, and the other wasnt bad at all!
I dont want that to happen again.

How do I properly adjust the tension on the rear shoes, and how do I know if they are adjusted properly?

Chalk up the front tires, lift the rear of your rig up with the e-brake released and the transmission in neutral and spin the tires and adjust until they spin for the same amount of time. That's what I do, and it works great.

How do I effectively adjust without taking the drum off and adjusting that little wheel-tooth gear thingy? Just pulling that side of the E-Brake cable before it goes into the brake housing?

You can adjust wheel-tooth thingy with the drum still on.

There is a little slot on the back plate that might or might not have a rubber boot. It's around an inch long and maybe a quarter inch wide and is oval shaped.

Get a medium length flat head screw driver and just feel around for it. Don't over tighten though... You cannot back it off, and pulling the drum will be a bi**h. Just go a little bit at a time with the wheels off the ground and keep spinning them until they go around for a full rotation.

I found this picture on google:

I guess you can loosen the drums if you over tighten them, but this image shows where the oval shaped hole is located. You will want to move the screwdriver handle down (rolling the adjusting wheel up) to tighten the pads, which is opposite of what is shown in the picture.

You are essentially tightening the new brake pads which will give you proper tension on the e-brake.

Actually you can back it off if over tightened, requires another screwdriver and more patience and couple curse words.

if you havent put it back together, then familiarize yourself with how the adjustment works....
Once you do that it will be easy to do.....
I adjust mine just about when the will starts touching the brake pads...
I also re-check after a few days to make sure it is all even....

I corrected myself in my second response. I took them off the hard way when I did my last brake job... More than a couple curse words were said haha.

This little demon.....

Eve after my new gasket and a perfectly cleaned surface...... It leaks.

Thoughts?

(Granted it only leaks a drop per day. But those things drive me insane)

Here are a couple shop shots I took for a school project
