Dang! Those Warn lights look good!

Still have to wire the e-lockers, but I have been driving the 70 for a few days and everything seems to be running good.

I installed the Warn SBD-210 auxiliary on the ARB bumper a couple of weekend ago and drove it to Andy's house to take it for a spin.

Hey, thanks for sending the link to this thread my way!!!!! I finally got time to look it over, what an amazing thread, the adventures & work are both amazing. The 70 is looking good, keep up the good work! That trip to Angel Falls must have been as much fun as it was work! I'm subscribed, can't wait to see what's next!

Great looking Cruiser and action photos.......
Thanks for sharing.

Thumbs up.

Can't say I have ever seen an 8274 brakeshaft snap like that. Guess that's why giggle pin makes an upgraded one.

I don't venture out of the three Series specific forums I currently have much, because I suffer from a very, very bad addiction and know better than to even look at other LCs, for the time being, to avoid furthering my own demise.

At first, that was all I expected was another build thread that'd force making more room in an already full driveway, which it did achieve, BUT the travel posts and descriptions are incredible and the read was awesome.

You've done well at documenting the build, Alberto. Envious of the Cruiser and the travels.

Well, done.

If you need anything else from an 80, let me know and I'll strip it off mine and send you're way. Awesome to know where parts have been transplanted, but I get the feeling you'll take the booster to a lot cooler destinations that it would've seen on my 80.

Nice work.

I went ahead and upgraded the brake MC to the early 80 series style (no-ABS and rear drum type)

The one I have is ABS, so wouldn't have worked, anyway, which ought to help stomaching the price for the new MC on your end.

I know what new OE booster, MC, brake lines, brake calipers, pads and rotors cost, so I feel your pain.

Something else, though maybe resolved and I missed it or possibly irrelevant.

All LX450s for the US market have the locker ECU installed, even if locked axles weren't.

Might include in your search for (again, assuming you're still looking. On iPhone, so can't find post). Be worth checking, I guess.

To make a long story short, when I installed the front e-locker axle, the axle came with the later style brake calipers (similar or identical to the 4Runner ones), bigger calipers with bigger pads. My old 1985 70 series brake master cylinder (MC) was not able to keep up with the increase volume demands so I added a non-ABS 80 series MC to correct this problem.

I re-gained the right pedal feel, but the pedal became really hard. I started doing some research on the forum and found that Hulsty used an 80 series brake booster on his 70. I sent Hulsty a PM asking for some information and he said that the 80 series booster works perfect, but an extension needed to be fabricated as the pedal rod (coming out of the booster) on the 70 series is about 20mm longer than the pedal rod on the 80 series. The thread and pitch on the pedal rod coming out of both brake boosters is M10x1.25. Thanks for the information, Hulsty!!!

Coincidentally, Chris (Delancy on the forum) was selling an 80 series brake booster with a new gasket:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/sale-parts/733561-1997-80-series-brake-booster.html

Chris also recommended to replace the booster valve for a new one from Toyota:

Brake Booster Gasket (44785-35020)
MC Gasket (47275-24010)

Thanks for the booster and for the parts info , Chris!

I had an old 70 series brake booster out and took some photos to show the lengh difference between the two.

And then started working to replace the brake booster. The FSM calls to remove the clutch booster, too. However, you can unbolt the clutch booster from the bulkhead (one bolt and two nuts) and there is enough give for you to remove the brake booster without completely removing the clutch booster :bounce:

And finshed the brake booster and MC install.

The 80 series brake booster have the vacuum port on the left side while the 70 series booster has in on the right side of the booster. A longer hose is needed to connect the valve of the booster to the vacuum hard line.

Also, adjusted the pedal according to the FSM.

Coincidentally, Chris Delancy (Delancy on the forum)

Really shows my Internet naivety a few years back, eh?

Changed everywhere else (to Japanese characters that Google translate claimed were words....but contacted by those the are proficient in the language, who've cleared that up for me :) ) but Mud disallows.

Thanks for the booster and for the parts info , Chris!

My pleasure.

Had I known the intended vehicle, I'd have polished or painted, at least. Ha.

One thing I learned during the process that lead to having the booster available is they very rarely fail and replacement had no impact, nor did replacing every other component of the braking system, on my 80s braking feel.
