RARE TOYOTA Landcruiser BJ45.
Imported by me from my personal collection of 85 different TOYOTA Landcruiser.
I have owned this one for the last 23 years.
Rare because this car bares the last VIN and the last engine number for the European production.
Rare because it is a Diesel and they were never imported in the US.
This is the real Japanese version.
Motor is a 3B, paired to a 4 speed manual transmission. ALL original.
Rims come from a 1983 Toyota Landcruiser that raced the "Paris-Dakar" Rally in 1983. I can provide the original clipped rims as well.
Freshened up last year with a brand new paint on a rust free chassis.
All glasses are original and carved with TOYOTA logo.
70000 Kms or 49000 miles
I am located in Florida and the car has a free and clear FL Title.
I have ALL the original books and maintenance record stamped by the dealership.
Perfect shape.

Asking $40000 obo

I watched the CL ads on this(these) for the last year or so. Same pics and truck and claimed to be the "last one built". Sometimes the ad said 1983, sometimes 1984, 1985 etc.... Couldn't figure out what was being sold.

I tried to put some gouge on the BaT listing on the joys/perils of 3B troopy ownership. I hope the buyer did his homework and a prior inspection. The back floor of the tub did not look original to me - the stamping looked more rounded than squared at the top of each ridge.

LANDCRUISERTLC - can you elaborate on the resto? Was it a South America Job? Also, can you share some more details on this Ulrich/Marti report Bubba? I would love to know more history on my 1984 BJ45.

As mentioned in post #23, the rig met reserve and sold on BaT.

It’s still relevant. He sells a lot of Cruisers and seems to always make lots of ridiculous claims.

Hey fellow mudders,
I bought an import from AUSTOUSA about three years ago. I have all the correct paperwork which they gave me. I never registered the vehicle because I was fixing it up. Now some friends that I sold it to are trying to get it registered at the Florida DMV but the DMV is being a stone wall. If there is anyone out there who has ever registered in Aussie import at the Florida DMV please contact me. Sooner the better

Thanks in advance

Sorry to hear this! The pitfalls of buying Cruisers that are not USA spec. I brought one in from Costa Rica once. Never again. The whole experience was a royal PITA! - What is the DMV requiring to issue a title that has not been provided? What is their reason?

@DRJAY

When I brought one from overseas to FL, this is what was required.

  • Ownership Documents (Dealership Documents, Bill of Sale, etc)
  • The DOT Declaration (HS-7).
  • Foreign title or registration.
  • Any one of the following U.S. Customs and Border Protection entry forms is acceptable as proof of customs entry (copy acceptable).
  • CBP 7523 — Entry and Manifest of Merchandise Free of Duty
  • CBP 3299 — Declaration For Free Entry of Unaccompanied Articles
  • CBP 3311 — Declaration For Free Entry of Returned AmericanProducts
  • CBP 7501 — Entry Summary (Does not require a Customs Inspector’s signature).
  • CBP 3461 — Entry/Immediate Delivery Secure and Verifiable ID will be required.
If the truck meets the epa import guidelines, the issue is probably that you never registered it before you sold it. You may need to backtrack.

I’ve had trucks unregistered for years at a time that were undergoing a restoration it’s not an issue in Iowa anyway. However you need to tell them the vehicle just entered the state now that the restoration is complete .

I’m actually not really sure what the DMV problem is. I sold it to a friend and his wife and they are the ones that have been struggling down at the DMV for the last couple days. I gave them all the necessary paperwork from AUS TO USA. They have the registration from Australia from the previous owner. They have a Vin verification. And a bill of sale from me and I have a bill of sale from AUS to USA. I just don’t know what’s going to happen. It’s such an awesome truck. Such stupidity. And for a 34-year-old classic troopy...

Unfortunately, what’s going to happen if they can’t get it registered won’t be good.

The DMV is just a paper chase. Find out what paper they need and supply it.

If they can’t tell you this then they can’t expect you to be able to solve the issue.

I second this on being able to solve the problem. I live in Florida and can say it’s probably one of the easiest states to register a vehicle. But without knowing what EXACTLY was provided to the local tax collectors office and what EXACTLY they claim is missing, then we cannot be of assistance. @overton hit the nail on the head, it’s just a checklist. They must be missing something.

Thanks for the input. Will keep you updated.
I’ve done all the steps and have all the documentation that AUSTOUSA suggests one needs. Only thing I can think of is that I never paid sales tax because I myself never registered it. Will try to go pay the tax next week— then ‘sell’ to my friends so they can go pay more sales tax! Stupidity!
Australian vehicles do not have titles, so they don’t come with a title when they enter the country

I doubt that’s the issue. Every tax collectors office I have ever been to in Florida has a nice little checklist they will print out for someone when they are having issues getting a title or tag. And it will tell the person exactly what they need to get the vehicle registered and title issued.

This is true. Florida’s #1 priority is collecting sales taxes and fees. They will do everthying they can to help get you to there. Safety, emissions, import legalities, that’s West Coast bullsh*t.

I'm not familiar with Florida laws and regulations but in Texas we have "bond title" is as good as a clean title. You can ask them if that would help you with your issue.
